MEXICO CITY - July 11, 2023 - Prime Video today revealed the official art and trailer for Mexican comedian Sofía Niño de Rivera's new Amazon Original docuseries, Libre de Reír. The series is added to the Prime membership catalog and will premiere on July 21 exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories. In this documentary series, Sofia Niño de Rivera teaches stand up comedy workshops while telling the stories of three different populations inside a penitentiary jail in Mexico City: men, women and LGBTTTIQ+, who are challenged to turn their personal stories into a stand up routine while learning a new trade. Hitting all the basics of how to create a comedy routine and going through various examples from a couple of Sofia's guests, we'll follow the participants as they develop their comedy routine.
From the hand of Niño de Rivera, we will learn about the personal stories of resilience and love on the part of the participants and their families, to end with the presentation of stand-up routines outside of prison. Contestants will need to make every second count as they prepare to perform their routines in front of a live audience.
Libre de Reír has 5 episodes, produced by Sofía Niño de Rivera, Jorge Bermúdez and Carla González Vargas under the direction of Maite Alberdi, the first Chilean director to be nominated for an Oscar with her film El Agente Topo and whose documentary La Memoria Infinita won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival.
