GRAMMY(R) AWARD WINNER FIONA APPLE CREATES ORIGINAL SONG CONTAINER FOR MAIN TITLES OF THE NEW SHOWTIME(R) DRAMA "THE AFFAIR"
THE AFFAIR Premieres Sunday, October 12 At 10 PM ET/PT
NEW YORK, NY - October 2, 2014 - Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Fiona Apple has contributed the brand new original song "Container" for the main title sequence of the highly-anticipated new SHOWTIME series THE AFFAIR. "Container" was written and performed by Apple and produced by frequent collaborator Blake Mills. After being approached by THE AFFAIR creator and executive producer, Sarah Treem, Apple constructed a hauntingly beautiful treatment for her previously unreleased song, largely inspired by the show's restrained yet complex narrative. THE AFFAIR debuts on Sunday, October 12 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME.
"Fiona Apple has been my favorite songwriter since I was sixteen," said Treem. "I am honored and humbled that she has chosen to lend her talent to our opening title sequence. If our show can approach one tenth of the depth and complexity of her song, I'll be very happy."
THE AFFAIR stars Golden Globe(R) nominees Dominic West (The Wire) and Ruth Wilson (Luther), as well as Emmy(R) nominee Maura Tierney (ER) and SAG Award(R) nominee Joshua Jackson (Fringe). The provocative one-hour drama explores the emotional and psychological effects of an extramarital affair, and will be told separately from the male and female perspectives - using the distinct memory biases to both misdirect and intrigue. Wilson plays Alison, a young woman waiting tables at a popular Hamptons diner, trying to piece her life back together in the wake of a tragedy. Her husband Cole (Jackson) struggles to keep it all together, with his wife and with the financially-strained ranch that has been in his family for generations. Their emotionally-charged marriage becomes even more complicated when Alison begins an affair with Noah (West), a New York City public school teacher and aspiring novelist who is spending the summer at his in-laws' estate out on the island. Tierney plays Helen, Noah's college sweetheart, best friend, mother of his children, lover and wife of 17 years. Award-winning playwright and writer/producer Sarah Treem (House of Cards, In Treatment) wrote the original script from a story co-created with Hagai Levi. They first worked together on the American adaption of Levi's show In Treatment. Treem and Levi will both serve as executive producers, along with director Jeffrey Reiner (Friday Night Lights) and Eric Overmyer (The Wire).
