SHOWTIME(R) OFFERS FIRST LOOK AT SEASON TWO OF THE GOLDEN GLOBE(R)-WINNING AND EMMY(R) AWARD NOMINATED HIT SERIES "HOMELAND"
NEW YORK - August 17, 2012 - Today, SHOWTIME released the first look at the highly-anticipated second season of its Emmy nominated, and Golden Globe and Peabody Award-winning hit series HOMELAND. The first look trailer can be accessed on the network's website: http://www.sho.com/sho/video/titles/17474/homeland-season-2-trailer and on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xh_TPjZJCRc. HOMELAND season two premieres on Sunday, September 30th at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
Developed for American television by Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa and based on the original Israeli series "Prisoners of War" by Gideon Raff, HOMELAND stars Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Claire Danes, Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Damian Lewis, and Emmy and Tony(R) Award winner Mandy Patinkin. The one-hour drama series tells the story of Carrie Mathison (Danes), a CIA officer battling her own demons, who becomes convinced that the intelligence that led to the rescue of U.S. soldier Nicholas Brody (Lewis) was a setup and may be connected to an Al Qaeda plot to be carried out on American soil. As we begin season two, Carrie is no longer with the Agency. The disgraced ex-officer is on the slow path to recovery, after her manic flight in season one nearly crashed Brody's political career. It's this fragile new existence that Carrie's former colleagues Saul Berenson (Patinkin) and David Estes (David Harewood) threaten to shatter, when they come to her door asking for help. Meanwhile, Brody is several months into his inaugural term as a freshman Congressman, and finds himself buffeted daily by competing agendas. With every lie he tells, the walls around him close in a little tighter, threatening to bring him down, along with his family and everything they've achieved since his return.
The series also stars Morena Baccarin, Diego Klattenhoff, Jackson Pace, Morgan Saylor, Jamey Sheridan, David Marciano and Navid Negahban. Season two guest stars include Rupert Friend, Zuleikha Robinson and Tim Guinee. Along with Gansa and Gordon, the executive producers for season two are Gideon Raff, Michael Cuesta, Alex Cary, Chip Johannessen, Henry Bromell, Meredith Stiehm, Avi Nir and Ran Telem. The series is produced by FOX 21.
HOMELAND was nominated for nine Emmy Awards, the most nominations of any freshman series this year, and the most nominations ever for a SHOWTIME series. The series received the most Golden Globe wins of any new series this year, including the honor of Best Television Drama, was named as one of the top ten television programs of 2011 by the American Film Institute (AFI) and as Outstanding New Program by the Television Critics Association Awards. The series also received a Peabody Award, as well as the Critics' Choice Award for Best Drama Series - remarkably all in its freshman season. HOMELAND ranks as the network's highest-rated freshman series ever, averaging 4.4 million weekly viewers across platforms in its first season. Its season one finale was the highest-rated finale for a freshman series in SHOWTIME history, with five million viewers across platforms.
