ABC NEWS' 'NIGHTLINE' RANKS NO. 1 IN TOTAL VIEWERS VS. CBS' 'AFTER MIDNIGHT' AND NBC'S 'LATE NIGHT WITH SETH MEYERS' FOR 6th CONSECUTIVE WEEK
'Nightline' Posts Week-to-Week and Year-to-Year Gains in All Key Demos and Is Posting Its Largest Overall Audience in 3 Years Season to Date
Week of June 24, 2024:
ABC News' "Nightline" ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers (787,000) the week of June 24, 2024, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. "Nightline" outperformed CBS' "After Midnight" (539,000) and NBC's "Late Night with Seth Meyers" (747,000) in overall viewers for the 6th consecutive week.
· "Nightline" posted week-to-week gains across the board: Total Viewers (+3% - 787,000 vs. 766,000), Adults 25-54(+1% - 176,000 vs. 175,000) and Adults 18-49 (+9% - 124,000 vs. 114,000).
· "Nightline" improved on the same week last year in all key target demos: Total Viewers (+5% - 787,000 vs. 750,000), Adults 25-54 (+5% - 176,000 vs. 167,000) and Adults 18-49 (+22% - 124,000 vs. 102,000).
· Season to date, "Nightline" is growing versus the comparable weeks last season in Total Viewers (+1% - 910,000 vs. 899,000), posting its largest overall audience in 3 years - since the 2020-2021 season.
· This week "Nightline" covered Lindsay Lohan returning to Disney for "Freaky Friday 2"; FX's "The Bear" returning to Hulu for season three; affirmative action in college admissions; jurors in the Karen Read trial unable to reach unanimous verdict; the 2024 T20 Cricket World Cup; actors raising concerns about Hollywood hairstyling equity; Julian Assange's plea deal with the U.S. and more.
NOTE: On Wednesday (6/26/24), "Nightline" was retitled to "NL-ABC" due to ABC's coverage of the NBA draft. The retitled telecast is excluded from the weekly and season averages. For the week, CBS' "After Midnight" was retitled to "After Midnight-ENC" and NBC's "Seth Meyers" was retitled to "Seth Meyers-SM" due to being repeats. The retitled telecasts are excluded from the season averages. ABC's weekly averages are based on four days (Monday-Tuesday and Thursday-Friday).
2nd Quarter 2024:
ABC News' "Nightline" averaged 878,000 Total Viewers, 197,000 Adults 25-54 and 130,000 Adults 18-49 during the 2nd quarter of 2024, based on Most Current Data from Nielsen Media Research.
· "Nightline" beat CBS' "After Midnight" in Total Viewers and Adults 25-54 during 2Q24.
· "Nightline" turned in gains versus the previous quarter (1Q24) in Adults 25-54 (+3% - 197,000 vs. 192,000) and Adults 18-49 (+8% - 130,000 vs. 120,000).
· "Nightline" was up compared to the year-ago quarter (2Q23) in Total Viewers (+1% - 878,000 vs. 869,000).
ABC News' "Nightline" is late-night television's prestigious, award-winning news program featuring the most powerful, in-depth stories that shape our lives and the world around us. It is anchored by Juju Chang and Byron Pitts. Eman Varoqua is executive producer. The program airs weeknights from 12:35-1:05 a.m. EDT on ABC. "Nightline" has also produced numerous original documentaries available on ABC News' digital platforms and Hulu.
