"The Golden Globes" Grow Year-to-Year in the Metered Markets, To the Event's Second-Highest Local-Market Rating in 10 Years
NBC spins the numbers for Sunday, January 8.

[via press release from NBC]

"THE GOLDEN GLOBES" GROW YEAR-TO-YEAR IN THE METERED MARKETS, TO THE EVENT'S SECOND-HIGHEST LOCAL-MARKET RATING IN 10 YEARS

THE 74TH ANNUAL "GLOBES" MORE THAN TRIPLE NBC'S TIME-SLOT AVERAGE LAST SEASON EXCLUDING SPORTS

IT'S THE TOP NON-SPORTS RATING IN THE TIME PERIOD FOR ANY BIG 4 NETWORK SINCE LAST FEBRUARY'S "ACADEMY AWARDS"

Here are "Golden Globes" results from the 56 local markets metered by Nielsen. Keep in mind that time zone-adjusted "fast-official" nationals are expected later today, while the 8 a.m. PT / 11 a.m. fast-affiliate ratings will NOT be time zone-adjusted and will significantly understate "Golden Globes" ratings.

NBC's telecast of "The 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards" (13.3 rating, 21 share in households in the 56 markets metered by Nielsen Media Research):

· Is up versus year-ago results in metered-market households by +2% (13.3/21 vs. 13.0/20 on Jan. 10, 2016) and by +6% versus two years ago (13.3/21 vs. 12.6/19 on Jan. 11, 2015).

· Is the second-highest-rated Golden Globes in 10 years in the metered markets, ranking since 2007 (16.0) behind only the 14.1 in 2014.

· Delivers the highest rating in the time period for any Big 4 network, excluding sports, since last February's "Academy Awards."

· More than triples NBC's average in the time period last season excluding sports (13.3 vs. 3.9).

· Has delivered over the last five years the event's five highest ratings since 2007.

· Note that the gain versus last year is unusual for recent awards telecasts, with virtually all major awards shows on the broadcast networks over the past year having dropped year-to-year with the exception of the "Hamilton"-boosted Tony Awards. Metered-market household declines have included:

o Academy Award, -6% (23.1 vs. 24.6).

o Grammys, -4% (16.1 vs. 16.7).

o Emmys, -3% (8.4 vs. 8.7).

o CMAs, -6% (7.7 vs. 8.2).

o Billboard Music Awards, -20% (6.1 vs. 7.6).

o American Music Awards, -28% (5.4 vs. 7.5).

o ESPYs, -28% (4.3 vs. 6.0).

o People's Choice Awards, -27% (4.3 vs. 5.9).

Note that fast-affiliate ratings (due at 8 a.m. PT / 11 a.m. ET) are not time zone-adjusted and will be unreliable for the live "Golden Globes" telecast. Accurate time zone-adjusted "fast official" nationals are expected later today.

A reminder that the fast-affiliate ratings that came in at 8 a.m. PT / 11 a.m. ET) are not time zone-adjusted and significantly understate results for the live "Golden Globes" telecast. Accurate time zone-adjusted fast-official ratings are expected later today.
