Friday's Broadcast Ratings: CBS Wins Demo Race with NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament

Here are the highlights of the 14 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (3/18/16):

CBS (5.691 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.8, #1) took home top demo honors on Friday with its coverage of the "NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament" (5.575 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.7, #T2), "NCAA Men's Basketball Championship Update" (6.896 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.2, #1) and "NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament" (5.265 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.7, #T2).

ABC (6.014 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.2, #2) then claimed the silver with its quartet of "Last Man Standing" (7.099 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T5), "Dr. Ken" (5.469 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T7), "Shark Tank" (6.251 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.4, #4) and "20/20" (5.507 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T5).

Next up was NBC (4.319 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.9, #3) and its combination of "Caught on Camera with Nick Cannon" (3.677 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.7, #11), "Grimm" (4.189 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.9, #9) and "Dateline NBC" (5.091 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T7).

Meanwhile, FOX (2.391 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.6, #4) offered up originals from "Sleepy Hollow" (2.808 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.8, #10) and "Second Chance" (1.975 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.5, #12).

And finally, repeats of "The Vampire Diaries" (0.717 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.2, #13) and "The Originals" (0.533 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.1, #14) on The CW (0.625 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.2, #5) closed out the evening.

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 0.8/4; "Late Show," 0.4/3, with an encore delayed by an NCAA overrun; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.5/3 with an encore.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.5/4 in metered-market households and a 0.4/2 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Seth Meyers" (1.3/4 in metered-market households with an encore) beat CBS's "Late Late Show" (0.9/3 with an encore delayed by an NCAA overrun). In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.4/2 in 18-49 with an encore) topped "Late Late Show" (0.3/2 with an encore delayed by an NCAA overrun).

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.8/3 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.3/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.


Here are the highlights of the 13 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks one year ago (3/20/15):

ABC (6.282 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.3, #1) was the top draw on Friday with its mix of "Last Man Standing" (7.056 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T2), "Cristela" (5.466 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.0, #9), "Shark Tank" (7.455 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.8, #1) and "20/20" (5.131 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T6).

NBC (6.114 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T2) then claimed the silver with the return of "Grimm" (4.905 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T6) and a two-hour "Dateline NBC" (6.719 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T2).

Next up was CBS (3.809 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T2) and its coverage of "NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament" (4.147 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T4), "NCAA Men's Basketball Championship Update" (3.335 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T6) and more "NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament" (3.539 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T4).

Meanwhile, FOX (2.610 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.8, #4) offered up a new "Glee" (2.695 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.8, #10) followed by the series finale of "Glee" (2.526 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.7, #11).

And finally, a new "Hart of Dixie" (1.363 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.4, #T12) and a rebroadcast of "iZombie" (1.283 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.4, #T12) on The CW (1.323 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.4, #5) closed out the evening. In the netlet's target demo (women 18-34), said duo posted a 0.6 and 0.4 rating, respectively.
