More Viewers Watched Portions of CBS News Broadcasts Through the First Four Weeks of the Season Than Any Other Network Newscasts

More Than 94.4 Million Viewers Tune Into CBS News Broadcasts Since September

More viewers watched portions of CBS News' broadcasts through the first four weeks of the season than have watched any other broadcast network newscasts, according to Nielsen most current ratings. An estimated 94.44 million people have watched some of CBS News' major broadcasts since the season began in September, with 34.92 million among the adults 25-54 demographic, which is desired by those advertising in news.

Original reporting from around the globe made the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY and CBS THIS MORNING the only broadcasts in the evening and morning news categories to post year-to-year audience increases, while leading 48 HOURS and 60 MINUTES to be the top non-sports broadcasts on Saturday and Sunday respectively, and bringing FACE THE NATION and CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD to #1 finishes with viewers in the Sunday morning public affairs and Sunday morning news broadcasts races.

Here's a recap of how CBS News broadcasts performed last week, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings:

The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY is the only network evening news broadcast to post year-to-year viewership growth for the week ending Oct. 16. The broadcast delivered 6.65 million viewers (+3% from 6.44m) and a 1.2/05 in adults 25-54. The CBS broadcast closed the viewership gap with the NBC by 1.1 million viewers and with ABC by half a million viewers compared to the same week last year. Season-to-date, the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY is the only network evening newscast up from last year. The broadcast is delivering 6.80 million viewers (+6% from 6.42m) and even in adults 25-54 (1.3/05) compared to last year.

60 MINUTES was the #1 non-sports broadcast on Oct. 18 and the #6 program overall in viewers for the week. The nation's most-watched news broadcast delivered 13.79 million viewers and a 3.4/08 with adults 25-54. Season-to-date, 60 MINUTES is the #1 news program and is delivering 14.42 million viewers (+24% from 11.62m) and a 3.4/09 with adults 25-54 (+48% from 2.3/06) compared to last season.

FACE THE NATION was the #1 Sunday public affairs broadcast with viewers on Oct. 18. The broadcast delivered 3.10 million viewers (up +5% from 2.95m) and a 0.6/03 (even) with adults 25-54. Editor's Note: FACE THE NATION's second half-hour was broadcast contiguously across 57.4% of the CBS affiliates. Season-to-date, FACE THE NATION is the #1 Sunday morning public affairs broadcast with viewers (3.35m, +2% from 3.30m) compared to last season.

CBS THIS MORNING was the only network morning news broadcast to post year-to-year gains among viewers compared to a year ago for the week ending Oct. 16. The broadcast delivered 3.25 million viewers (+7% from 3.03m) and a 0.8/06 with adults 25-54 (even). The broadcast closed the viewership gap with NBC by 500,000 viewers and with ABC by 880,000 viewers. Season-to-date, CBS THIS MORNING is up +10% in viewers (3.41m from 3.09m) and even in adults 25-54 (0.8/07) compared to last year.

CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD was the #1 Sunday morning news program with adults 25-54 and viewers on Oct. 18. The broadcast delivered 5.07 million viewers and a 1.0/06 in adults 25-54. Season-to-date, CBS SUNDAY MORNING is the #1 Sunday morning news program with viewers (5.15m) and adults 25-54 (1.0/06).

48 HOURS was Saturday's #1 non-sports program with viewers on Oct. 17. The broadcast delivered 4.76 million viewers (up +2% from the same night last year) and a 1.1/03 with adults 25-54. Season-to-date, 48 HOURS is delivering 5.14 million viewers and a 1.3/04 with adults 25-54.

CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY delivered 1.90m viewers with a 0.4/03 in adults 25-54 on Oct. 17. Season-to-date, CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY is up +8% in viewers (2.15m from 1.99m) and even in adults 25-54 (0.5/04) compared to last year.
