"48 HOURS: FATHER AND SON: THE VERDICT" POSTS WEEK-TO-WEEK GAINS IN KEY NEWS DEMOS AND VIEWERS

48 HOURS: "Father and Son: The Verdict" posted week-to-week gains in adults 25-54, the demographic that matters most to those who advertise in news, as well as viewers, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for May 9. 48 HOURS was Saturday's #1 primetime program with viewers.

48 HOURS delivered 5.49 million viewers and a 1.3/04 with adults 25-54. Compared to the previous week, 48 HOURS was up +8% in adults 25-54 (from 1.2/04) and added +370,000 viewers (from 5.12m, +7%). Compared to the same night last year, 48 HOURS was up +9% in viewers and even in adults 25-54.

Saturday's broadcast featured Susan Spencer and 48 HOURS' investigation into the 2011 death of Uta von Schwedler, who was found in her bathtub by her then-boyfriend. It took six weeks for the autopsy report to be released, which listed the cause of death as drowning. The manner of her death was listed as "undetermined," leaving open the possibility of suicide. Evidence at the scene even suggested von Schwedler might have killed herself.

But her son, Pelle Wall, was convinced his father Johnny Wall killed her, and vowed to do whatever he could to get his father convicted. Johnny maintained he had nothing to do with his ex-wife's death. He was arrested and charged in 2013 with killing his wife. He went on trial in February 2015 and was convicted of murder.

48 HOURS has been covering the von Schwedler case for two years. 48 HOURS: "Father and Son: The Verdict" is produced by Marcelena Spencer, Aimee deSimone, Josh Gelman, Avi Cohen and Bill Kerig. Charlotte Fuller is the field producer. Mike Vele, Marlon Disla, Alan Miller, Mike Mongulla, Tom Costantino and Jason Schmidt are the editors. Peter Schweitzer is the senior producer. Susan Zirinsky is the senior executive producer.
