Tuesday's Broadcast Ratings: CBS Surges Behind Returning Originals

Here are the highlights of the 16 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (1/6/15):

CBS (15.605 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.3, #1) was the network to beat on Tuesday with the return of new episodes from "NCIS" (19.491 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.8, #1), "NCIS: New Orleans" (17.355 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.5, #2) and "Person of Interest" (9.970 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.7, #T6).

ABC (6.211 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.6, #2) then claimed the silver with the premiere of "Marvel's Agent Carter" (7.430 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 2.0, #3), a second "Marvel's Agent Carter" (6.299 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.8, #T4) and a new "Forever" (4.905 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.1, #9).

Next up was FOX (3.984 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.5, #3) with the season premiere of "MasterChef Junior" (5.261 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.8, #T4) alongside fresh installments of "New Girl" (3.166 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.5, #8) and "The Mindy Project" (2.247 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 1.0, #10).

Meanwhile, NBC (3.843 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.1, #4) served up repeats of "Parks & Recreation" (2.895 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.9, #11), another "Parks & Recreation" (2.136 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T12) followed by new episodes of "Marry Me" (2.046 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T12), "About a Boy" (2.663 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T12) and "Chicago Fire" (6.659 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.7, #T6).

And finally, repeats of "The Flash" (1.355 million viewers, #15; adults 18-49: 0.5, #15) and "Supernatural" (1.033 million viewers, #16; adults 18-49: 0.4, #16) on The CW (1.194 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.4, #5) closed out the evening. In the netlet's target demo (women 18-34), "The Flash" posted a 0.3 rating while "Supernatural" delivered a 0.2 rating.

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 1.0/5; "Late Show," 0.5/2; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.7/3.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.3/4 in metered-market households and a 0.4/3 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Seth Meyers" (1.2/4 in metered-market households) beat CBS's "Late Late Show" (1.1/4). In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.4/3 in 18-49) topped "Late Late Show" (0.3/2).

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.7/3 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.3/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.


Here are the highlights of the 12 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks one year ago (1/7/14):

CBS (16.451 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.4, #1) was the top draw on Tuesday thanks to a new "NCIS" (20.654 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.9, #1), the premiere of "Intelligence" (16.586 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.4, #2) and an original "Person of Interest" (12.114 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 2.0, #4).

NBC (5.858 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.8, #2) then took home the silver with fresh installments of "The Biggest Loser 15" (5.401 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.7, #T6) and "Chicago Fire" (6.772 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.9, #5).
