SATURDAY'S SEASON PREMIERE OF "48 HOURS: PARADISE LOST" IS THE NIGHT'S #1 PROGRAM WITH VIEWERS
Saturday's season premiere of 48 HOURS: "Paradise Lost" was the #1 program with viewers for the night and was #1 at 10:00 PM with viewers and adults 25-54, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for Sept. 27.
48 HOURS was first at 10:00 PM with 5.54 million viewers and a 1.3/04 with adults 25-54 (tied with ABC). 48 HOURS posted its best audience delivery since April 26, 2014 and its best adults 18-49 rating (1.0/04) since Dec. 14, 2013.
Saturday's broadcast featured Susan Spencer and 48 HOURS' investigation into the death of John Bender, a Wall Street genius who was found dead in the bedroom of his Costa Rican home with his wife Ann beside him. They had moved to Central America to live a dream, and spent part of his $100 million fortune creating a nature sanctuary there, including a 50,000-square-foot home without walls.
The dream turned into a nightmare on Jan. 8, 2010, when Bender died from a bullet wound to the back of his head. Ann Bender said her husband was trying to kill himself. Prosecutors in Costa Rica maintained it was murder. Ann Bender went on trial for murder, but was acquitted. But unlike the system in the United States, the judicial system Costa Rica allows people to be tried twice for the same crime. Prosecutors charged Bender again with murder, and in May 2014 she was convicted. 48 HOURS' investigation, aided by an independent forensic team, found that the prosecution's theory of what happened was not what they believe occurred.
48 HOURS: "Paradise Lost" is produced by Josh Yager, Doug Longhini, Ana Real, Shoshanah Wolfson and Tamara Weitzman. Richard Barber, Gary Winter and Marcus Balsam are the editors. Peter Schweitzer is the senior producer. Susan Zirinsky is the senior executive producer.
