Although once again airing mostly repeats on Wednesday, ABC won the week in Adults 18-49 (1.5/5), leading CBS by 7% (1.4/5), NBC by 7% (1.4/4) and Fox by 15% (1.3/4). ABC has now finished No. 1
(3 times) or No. 2 (3 times) on 6 of the last 8 weeks in the key young adult sales demo. The Network also ranked No. 1 for the week in Adults 18-34, Adults 25-54 (tie) and across all key Women (W18-34/W18-49/W25-54).
Rankings: The Net delivered 4 of the Top 15 TV shows in Adults 18-49, placing 3 in the Top 7 and airing the No. 1 broadcast drama for the 7th straight week: "Scandal" - No. 2 (No. 1 broadcast show - tied w/"The Voice"), "Grey's Anatomy" - No. 6 (No. 2 ad-supported drama), "DWTS" - No. 7 and "S.H.I.E.L.D." - No. 12. ABC's "DWTS" was the week's No. 2 TV show in Total Viewers, behind only "NCIS." In fact for the 5th week running, "Dancing" was TV's most-watched unscripted series overall and outperformed both editions of "American Idol" in Adults 18-49. Scoring its 2nd-highest ratings this season, ABC's "20/20" was the week's No. 1 newsmagazine in key Adults (AD18-49/AD25-54).
· For the 2nd week in a row, ABC was the only major net up over the same week last year in
Adults 18-49 (+7% - 1.5/5 vs. 1.4/4).
· The Net delivered its 2nd-most-watched non-Oscar week since November (6.5 million) - since w/o 11/25/13.
Monday
With Disney night on "DWTS" and a repeat "Castle," ABC was the most-watched TV network on Monday by 2.7 million viewers over runner-up NBC (12.6 million vs. 9.9 million), winning each half-hour of the evening. The Net took 2nd in Adults 18-49 (2.0/6), beating CBS by 18% (1.7/5) and Fox's all-original drama lineup by 43% (1.4/4).
· "DWTS" was the night's most-watched TV program overall and the No. 2 TV show in Adults
18-49, behind only NBC's "The Voice." ABC's encore "Castle" was Monday's most-watched scripted series.
"Dancing with the Stars" (8:00-10:01 p.m. - 14.8 million and 2.3/7 in AD18-49):
From 8:00-10:01 p.m., ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" finished as Monday's most-watched TV series for the 5th week in a row, topping NBC's "The Voice" in head-to-head competition by a best-of-season 2.9 million viewers (14.8 million vs. 11.9 million). "Dancing" also matched its most competitive finish this season with "The Voice" in Adults 18-49 (2.3/7 vs. 3.4/10). In fact, "Dancing" took 2nd in the 2-hour time period over CBS and Fox across all key Adults (AD18-34/AD18-49/AD25-54) and Teens 12-17, while beating "The Voice" in Kids 2-11 for the broadcast lead. "DWTS" was the No. 1 most social broadcast series on Monday night with 129,774 tweets.
· On a night celebrating the music of Disney's animated movies, "DWTS" was up week to week by 5% in Adults 18-49 to tie its 2nd-highest rating this season, while earning new season highs with Adults 18-34, Teen 12-17 and Kids 2-11. In addition, the show was up over the same night last year (13.4 million and 2.2/6 on 4/14/13) in Total Viewers (+10%) and Adults 18-49 (+5%), marking its 3rd straight week of year-to-year growth on both measures.
"Castle" (10:01-11:00 p.m. - 8.1 million and 1.3/4 in AD18-49):
During the 10 o'clock hour, ABC's repeat "Castle" was the most-watched TV show (8.1 million), outdrawing replays of NBC's "Blacklist" by 2.3 million viewers (5.8 million) and CBS' "Person of Interest" by 3.6 million viewers (4.5 million). The 6th-season ABC drama delivered its 2nd-most-watched encore ever, behind only the prior week's telecast.
Tuesday
"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." (8:00-9:00 p.m. - 3.6 million and 1.1/4 in AD18-49):
During the 8 o'clock hour, a repeat of ABC's "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." drew 1.2 million more viewers than Fox's original "Glee" (3.6 million vs. 2.4 million) and led by 10% in Adults 18-49 (1.1/4 vs. 1.0/3).
"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." (9:00-10:00 p.m. - 5.5 million and 2.1/6 in AD18-49):
Shifting to 9:00 p.m. for one week, ABC's "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." (2.1/6) nearly doubled its Adult 18-49 lead-in (+91%), growing 11% week over week to deliver a 5-week high - since 3/11/14.
In the 9 o'clock hour, the ABC freshman drama tied CBS' veteran "NCIS: LA" for No. 1 in Adults
18-49 (2.1/6), while beating NBC's comedies by 24% (1.7/5 - "About a Boy"/"Growing Up Fisher") and Fox's comedies by 91% (1.1/3 - "New Girl"/"The Mindy Project").
· "S.H.I.E.L.D." won its hour with Adults 18-34 and Men 18-34, while ranking as Tuesday's top-rated show with Men 18-49. In fact, season to date, ABC's "S.H.I.E.L.D." is Tuesday's No. 1 TV program with Men 18-34 and Men 18-49.
· "S.H.I.E.L.D." posted ABC's highest Adult 18-49 rating in the slot with scripted programming since season-premiere Tuesday in September - since 9/24/13.
"Celebrity Wife Swap" (10:00-11:00 p.m. - 3.2 million and 1.0/3 in AD18-49):
During the 10 o'clock hour against original dramas on CBS ("Person of Interest") and NBC ("Chicago Fire"), "Celebrity Wife Swap" opened with 7-week highs in the time period for ABC in Total Viewers (3.2 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.0/3) - since 2/25/14.
Thursday
Featuring a repeat "Grey's Anatomy" at 8:00 p.m., an original "Grey's" at 9:00 p.m. and "Scandal" at 10:00 p.m. with its best-ever season finale numbers, ABC won Thursday for the 2nd week in a row among Adults 18-49 (2.3/7). "Scandal" was Thursday's dominant No. 1 TV show in Adults 18-49 (3.4/11).
"Grey's Anatomy" (9:00-10:00 p.m. - 8.4 million and 2.6/8 in AD18-49):
Nearly tripling its Adult 18-49 lead-in at 9:00 p.m. (+189%), ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" (2.6/8) shot up to win its hour by impressive margins, outdelivering CBS' season finale of "The Crazy Ones" by 86% (1.4/4) and Fox with "American Idol" and "Surviving Jack" by 73% (1.5/5). The ABC drama was also the most-watched TV show overall in the hour (8.4 million). Despite a lower lead-in, "Grey's" was up in Total Viewers (+2%) and held steady with its week-ago Adult 18-49 rating, marking its most-watched telecast in 7 weeks - since its mid-season return on 2/27/14.
· In its 10th season, "Grey's Anatomy" is up over the same point last year in both Total Viewers (+6%) and Adults 18-49 (+5%), delivering its best results in 4 and 3 years, respectively - since the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons.
"Scandal" (10:00-11:00 p.m. - 10.6 million and 3.4/11 in AD18-49):
Spiking over its lead-in at 10:00 p.m. (a best-ever +31%), ABC's season finale of "Scandal" (3.4/11) dominated its hour in Adults 18-49, beating NBC's season finale of "Parenthood" by 162% (1.3/4). It also made ABC the most-watched TV network overall in the final hour of the night (10.6 million). "Scandal" was up by double digits week to week in Total Viewers (+15%) and Adults 18-49 (+13%), drawing its largest-ever audience and tying its 2nd-highest young adult number. "Scandal" equaled the highest Adult 18-49 number for any 10:00 p.m. drama telecast on any net since October - since 10/3/13.
· "Scandal" was up over its year-ago finale (9.1 million and 3.2/9 on 5/16/13) by 16% in Total Viewers and by 6% in Adults 18-49, marking the show's strongest season finale.
· The "Scandal" finale delivered 697,436 tweets (up +101% from the prior week for the 2nd-highest number for any episode), amassing over 7 million tweets during its 3rd season run.
· On average during 2013-14, "Scandal" finished up 39% in Total Viewers (11.5 million vs. 8.3 million) and 43% in Adults 18-49 (4.0/12 vs. 2.8/8) to post its best-ever season, while also qualifying as TV's fastest growing returning series.
Friday
ABC won Friday for the 3rd week in a row among Adults 18-49 (1.5/6), finishing No. 1 in 5 of 6 half-hours of prime and leading the night for the 7th time in 8 weeks. Please Note: Overall TV Usage levels on the night were down for the 2nd consecutive Friday, dropping -3% week to week in Adults 18-49 (27.1% vs. 27.9%) and coming off a -4% decline the prior week.
· ABC's "20/20" and "Shark Tank" ranked as the Top 2 TV programs on Friday in Adults 18-49, respectively. In addition, "20/20" drew its 2nd-largest audience of the season and was once again Friday's dominant No. 1 newsmagazine, outdelivering NBC's "Dateline" on the night in Total Viewers and key Adults (AD18-49/AD25-54).
"Last Man Standing" (8:00-8:31 p.m. - 5.4 million and 1.2/5 in AD18-49):
At 8:00 p.m., ABC's "Last Man Standing" won its half-hour for the 3rd week in a row in Adults 18-49.
"Shark Tank" (9:00-10:01 p.m. - 6.8 million and 1.7/6 in AD18-49):
Catapulting over its lead-in at 9:00 p.m. in Adults 18-49 (+113% over a repeat "Last Man Standing"), ABC's "Shark Tank" (1.7/6) topped its hour by wide margins, beating NBC's "Dateline" by 42% (1.2/4) and Fox's "Kitchen Nightmares" by 89% (0.9/3).
· On average, "Shark Tank" is up by double digits in Total Viewers (+14%), Adults 18-49 (+10%) and Adults 18-34 (+23%) over the same point last year, trending as the series' strongest season ever.
"20/20" (10:01-11:00 p.m. - 8.4 million and 1.8/6 in AD18-49):
During the 10:00 p.m. hour, ABC's "20/20" dominated its slot in Adults 18-49 (1.8/6) and Adults
25-54 (2.5/7), outdelivering NBC's original "Hannibal" (0.8/3 and 1.0/3) by 125% and 150%, respectively. It was the ABC newsmagazine's 8th week in a row as the No. 1 regular program in the hour with Adults 18-49. "20/20" reported on people who make money by taking it away from someone else. "20/20" shot up week to week in Total Viewers (+45%), Adults 18-49 (+20%) and Adults 25-54 (+25%), scoring its 2nd-highest numbers this season in Total Viewers and the key Adult news demo.
· Building its numbers season to date in Total Viewers (+21%) and Adults 25-54 (+5%), "20/20" is tracking for its most-watched season in 4 years - since the 2009-10 season.
Saturday
With the 34th replay of the 1956 Cecil B. DeMille classic, "The Ten Commandments," ABC (6.0 million) qualified as the most-watched network on Saturday with its largest audience on the night since early December �- since 12/7/13. The Net also ranked as the No. 1 broadcaster on the night in Adults 18-49 (1.1/4-tied with Fox) and scored its highest-rated Saturday in nearly 5 months - since 12/7/13. Airing from 7:00-11:23 p.m., "The Ten Commandments" grew its overall audience (+2% - 5.7 million vs. 5.6 million) over its year-ago broadcast (on 3/30/13).
Sunday
ABC earned second place on Easter Sunday in Total Viewers (4.8 million).
· ABC's "Once Upon a Time" stood as Sunday's No. 1 broadcast program in Adults 18-49 (1.7/6-tie).
"It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown & Charlie Brown All Stars!" (7:00-8:00 p.m. - 3.7 million and 1.0/4 in AD18-49):
During the 7:00 p.m. hour, ABC's annual broadcast of "It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown & Charlie Brown All Stars!" was up over its year-ago airing (3/31/13) by 42% in Total Viewers (3.7 million vs. 2.6 million) and by 67% in Adults 18-49 (1.0/4 vs. 0.6/2).
"Once Upon a Time-SP" (8:00-9:00 p.m. - 5.9 million and 1.7/6 in AD18-49):
Spiking 70% over its Adult 18-49 lead-in at 8:00 p.m., ABC's "Once Upon a Time" (1.7/6) finished
No. 1 against its regular broadcast competition for the 7th straight week.
"Hallmark Hall of Fame: In My Dreams" (9:00-11:00 p.m. - 4.8 million and 1.0/3 in AD18-49):
From 9:00-11:00 p.m., "Hallmark Hall of Fame: In My Dreams" made ABC the No. 2 most-watched network in its 2-hour time period to CBS, outdrawing NBC's first-run dramas by 17% (4.8 million vs. 4.1 million for "Believe"/"Crisis"). During the 10 o'clock hour, the ABC movie beat out NBC's "Crisis" by 1.2 million viewers (4.9 million vs. 3.7 million) and by 11% in Adults 18-49 (1.0/3 vs. 0.9/3).
