Friday's Broadcast Ratings: NCAA Regional Semifinals Triumph for CBS

Here are the highlights of the 16 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (3/28/14):

CBS (9.855 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 3.1, #1) was the big winner on Friday with its coverage of the "NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament: Regional Semifinals - Tennessee #11 vs. Michigan #2" (9.949 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.9, #2), "NCAA Men's Basketball Championship Update" (8.799 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 2.7, #3) and "NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament: Regional Semifinals - Kentucky #8 vs. Louisville #4" (10.243 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 3.5, #1).

NBC (6.554 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.3, #2) then claimed a distant second place with a two-hour "Dateline NBC" (8.009 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.4, #4) followed by a new "Hannibal" (3.646 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.1, #8).

Next up was ABC (5.729 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.2, #3) with new episodes of "Last Man Standing" (6.213 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T5) and "The Neighbors" (4.034 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.0, #9) followed by a repeat "Shark Tank" (5.022 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.2, #7) and a new "20/20" (7.042 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T5).

Meanwhile, FOX (1.673 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.4, #T4) offered up a new "Rake" (1.889 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.4, #T13), the departing "Enlisted" (1.363 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.4, #T13) and the penultimate week of "Raising Hope" (1.550 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T10).

And finally, a new "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" (1.738 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T10), a repeat "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" (1.592 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.5, #T10) and a new "Hart of Dixie" (1.099 million viewers, #15; adults 18-49: 0.4, #T13) on The CW (1.381 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.4, #T4) closed out the night. In the netlet's target demo (women 18-34), "Whose Line" posted a 0.4 rating at 8:00/7:00c and 0.4 rating at 8:30/7:30c while "Dixie" managed a 0.4 rating.

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "Tonight," 1.2/5; "Late Show," 0.7/4 with an encore delayed by basketball; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.6/3 with an encore.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.4/4 in metered-market households and a 0.4/2 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Seth Meyers" (1.4/4 in metered-market households with an encore) beat CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (1.0/4 with an encore delayed by basketball). In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.7/4 in 18-49 with an encore) topped "Late Late Show" (0.4/2 with an encore delayed by basketball).

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.9/4 in metered-market households and a 0.5/3 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.

CBS (6.398 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.9, #1) took home top honors on Friday with its coverage of the "NCAA Men's Basketball Championship: Oregon vs. Louisville" (6.435 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.9, #2), "NCAA Men's Basketball Championship Update" (4.348 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T5) and "NCAA Men's Basketball Championship: Michigan State vs. Duke" (7.368 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.4, #1).

ABC (4.885 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.3, #2) then claimed a distant second place with the relocated "Happy Endings" (3.104 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T7), another "Happy Endings" (2.377 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.7, #11) plus new episodes of "Shark Tank" (5.983 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.7, #3) and "20/20" (5.931 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.4, #4).

Next up was NBC (3.988 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.0, #3) with originals from "Fashion Star" (3.025 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T9), "Grimm" (4.778 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T5) and "Rock Center With Brian Williams" (4.162 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T9).

Meanwhile, FOX (2.494 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.7, #4) offered up a repeat of "Kitchen Nightmares" (2.575 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T7) plus a new "Touch" (2.413 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.5, #12).

And finally, fresh installments of "Nikita" (1.288 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.4, #13) and "Cult" (0.605 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.2, #14) on The CW (0.947 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.3, #5) closed out the evening.
