Sunday's Eagles-Cowboys Match-Up Scores the 'Sunday Night Football' Season High in Total Viewers

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - Dec. 31, 2013 - NBC has won the primetime ratings week of Dec. 23-29 among the Big 4 networks in adults 18-49, total viewers and every other key measure, with "Sunday Night Football" ranking #1 among primetime programs on those networks in every key ratings category. According to "live plus same day" viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research for the week, NBC averaged a 2.0 rating, 6 share in adults 18-49 and 6.7 million viewers overall.

NBC has now finished #1 or tied for #1 nine weeks in a row and during 13 of 14 weeks so far this season, finishing #2 only once during a week in which Fox carried World Series coverage on four of seven nights.

NBC's top series for the week in 18-49 were: "Sunday Night Football" (#1), Monday's "Sing-Off" finale and Thursday's "Women of SNL" encore (tied for #8) and Tuesday's "It's a Wonderful Life" and Friday's "Dateline NBC" encore (tied for #19). Rankings exclude sports pre- and post-game shows.

"Sunday Night Football" ranked #1 among primetime shows on the Big 4 in every key category - adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, plus total viewers - as well as kids 2-11 and teens 12-17.

Through 14 weeks of the season, NBC ranks #1 among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49 and is also #1 in every other key demo - adults, men and women 18-34; men and women 18-49; and adults, men and women 25-54.

NBC leads the season by 0.5 of a rating point (with a 3.1 vs. second-place CBS's 2.6), the biggest margin for any network 14 weeks into the season in 11 years (since NBC led by 0.7 of a point in 2002). NBC is the only Big 4 network so far this season to be equaling its 18-49 rating of one year ago.

In total viewers, NBC ranks #2 for the season with an average of 9.7 million viewers, which is its biggest overall audience 14 weeks into the season in seven years (since 2006, 10.1 million). Versus one year ago, NBC is up 11% season to date in total viewers (9.7 million vs. 8.8 million).

Primetime averages for the week of Dec. 23-29 in adults 18-49 are: NBC, 2.0/6; CBS, 1.1/4; ABC, 1.1/3; Fox, 1.1/3; and CW, 0.3/1. In overall total viewers, the weekly averages were: NBC, 6.7 million; CBS, 6.2 million; ABC, 4.1 million; Fox, 3.6 million; and CW, 0.9 million.

Season-to-date averages are: NBC, 3.1/9; CBS, 2.6/8; Fox, 2.3/7; ABC, 2.3/7; and CW, 0.8/2. In overall total viewers, the season averages are: CBS, 11.4 million; NBC, 9.7 million; ABC, 8.1 million; Fox, 6.9 million; and CW, 2.0 million.

NBC highlights for the week of Dec. 23-29:

Monday: The finale of "The Sing-Off" (1.4/4 in adults 18-49, 5.3 million viewers overall from 8-10 p.m. ET) delivered the #1 rating of the night on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49and won its time period among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and total viewers. "The Sing-Off" was up 17% in 18-49 versus its prior telecast on the previous Thursday (with a 1.4 rating vs. a 1.2) and up 19% in total viewers (5.3 million vs. 4.5 million).

At 10 p.m. ET, a special holiday edition of "Hollywood Game Night" (1.0/3 in 18-49, 3.5 million viewers overall) ranked #2 in the slot among ABC, CBS and NBC in adults 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54 and virtually all other key demos.

Tuesday: An encore telecast of the 1946 movie classic "It's a Wonderful Life" (1.1/4 in 18-49, 4.7 million viewers from 8-11 p.m. ET) ranked #2 for the night among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49 and total viewers and tied for #1 among those networks in adults 25-54 and all key adult-male demographics. From its first half-hour to its sixth, "It's a Wonderful Life" grew by 40% in 18-49 rating (to a 1.4 from a 1.0) and by 41% or nearly 1.7 million viewers overall (5.7 million vs. 4.1 million). This was NBC's 36th primetime run of "It's a Wonderful Life," directed by Frank Capra and starring Jimmy Stewart, since the movie was brought to broadcast network television in 1994.

Wednesday: From 8-9 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "Kelly Clarkson's Cautionary Christmas Music Tale" (0.7/2 in adults 18-49, 3.5 million viewers overall) grew from its first half-hour to its second by 33% in 18-49 rating (to a 0.8 from a 0.6) and by 13% in total viewers (3.8 million vs. 3.3 million).

From 9-10 p.m. ET, a rebroadcast of "Michael Bublé's 3rd Annual Christmas Special" (0.7/2 in adults 18-49, 3.4 million viewers overall) retained 100% of its lead-in in adults 18-49, adults 18-34 and other key measures.

From 10-11 p.m., an encore holiday edition of "Hollywood Game Night" (0.6/2 in 18-49, 2.1 million viewers overall) tied for #2 in the slot among ABC, CBS and NBC in adults 18-49 and was #1 among those networks in adults, men and women 18-34.

Thursday: An encore telecast of "The Women of SNL" (1.4/4 in adults 18-49, 4.1 million viewers overall from 9-11 p.m. ET) won the two-hour time period among ABC, CBS and NBC in adults 18-49, adults 18-34, adults 25-54 and other key demos. For its second hour from 10-11 p.m., "The Women of SNL" rebroadcast ranked #1 among ABC, CBS and NBC in every key demographic.

Friday: An encore telecast of "Dateline NBC" (1.1/4 in 18-49, 6.2 million viewers overall from 8-9 p.m. ET) won the time period among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49, adults 25-54, adults 18-34 and total viewers. "Dateline" reported NBC's biggest overall audience in the time period in three weeks (since Dec. 6).

The NBC News Special "What We Wasted Our Year On" (1.0/3 in 18-49, 4.1 million viewers overall from 9-10 p.m. ET) retained 91% of its adult 18-49 lead-in and 100% of its adult 18-34 lead-in (0.7 vs. 0.7).

Sunday: "Sunday Night Football" (9.3/25 in 18-49, 27.4 million viewers overall from 8:31-11:24 p.m. ET), featuring the Philadelphia Eagles at the Dallas Cowboys, scored a season high for "Sunday Night Football" in total viewers and was the fourth-biggest Sunday telecast in NBC's eight seasons of "SNF." It's also the biggest overall audience for an Eagles regular-season primetime game in 17 years (since Monday, Sept. 30, 1996, Cowboys-Eagles on ABC, 27.5 million).
