During the week of September 9, 2013, ABC was up over the prior week in Total Viewers (+7% - 4.5 million vs. 4.2 million) and Adults 18-49 (+10% - 1.1/3 vs. 1.0/3) to deliver its biggest audience in 12 weeks - since w/o 6/17/13. Gaining 18% in viewers from the year-ago week (3.8 million on w/o 9/10/12), the Net grew its overall audience year to year for the 3rd straight week and for the 7th time in the last 8 weeks. ABC's "The Miss America Competition," which delivered its highest numbers since 2004, finished among the week's Top 10 most-watched broadcast programs (No. 9) and placed in the Top 15 with Adults 18-49 (No. 14).
Monday
"Shark Tank" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)
At 8:00 p.m., ABC's repeat "Shark Tank," in Night 2 of "Shark Tank Week," was up by nearly 1.0 million Total Viewers (4.6 million vs. 3.8 million) and by 20% in Adults 18-49 (1.2/4 vs. 1.0/3) versus Sunday's telecast in Night 1 of "Shark Tank Week."
"Mistresses" (9:00-10:01 p.m.)
At 9:00 p.m., ABC's "Mistresses" season finale posted the freshman series' 2nd-best numbers since July in both Total Viewers (3.9 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.1/3) - since 7/29/13.
"Castle" (10:01-11:00 p.m.)
A rebroadcast of ABC's "Castle" more than doubled the Total Viewer audience of NBC's original "Siberia" in the time slot (+133% - 4.2 million vs. 1.8 million), while leading the NBC program by 50% in Adults 18-49 (0.9/3 vs. 0.6/2). "Castle" was up compared to its year-ago telecast in both Nielsen measures (4.1 million and 0.7/2 on 9/10/12).
Tuesday
"Shark Tank" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)
Building for the 2nd consecutive night to its best numbers yet, Night 3 of ABC's "Shark Tank Week" was up over its Monday telecast in Total Viewers (+2% - 4.7 million vs. 4.6 million) and Adults 18-49 (+8% - 1.3/4 vs. 1.2/4).
· "Shark Tank" delivered ABC's highest non-sports Adult 18-49 rating in the hour in over 5 months - since 4/2/13.
· From 8:00-9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, ABC's repeat "Shark Tank" ranked No. 1 among the major networks with Men 18-49 (1.1/4), tying Night 2 of NBC's highly-promoted "Million Second Quiz." In addition against original programming on NBC ("Million Second Quiz") and Fox ("SYTYCD"), the "Shark Tank" encore paced within 2-tenths of a rating point of the hour's lead in Adults 18-49.
Wednesday
"Shark Tank" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)
From 8:00-9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, ABC's repeat "Shark Tank" nearly caught NBC's "Million Second Quiz" in Adults 18-49 (pacing within 1-tenth of a rating point and tied in audience share - 1.2/4 vs. 1.3/4), and beat the highly-promoted NBC show by double-digits with key Men: +20% in Men 18-49 and +15% in Men 25-54.
· In Total Viewers (4.9 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.2/4), "Shark Tank" delivered ABC's best numbers in the hour in nearly 4 months - since the final night of the season on 5/22/13.
· Despite facing stiff original competition in the hour from the season premiere of Fox's "The X Factor" and CBS' "Big Brother," Night 4 of "Shark Tank Week" was the most-watched.
Thursday
"Shark Tank" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)
On the fifth and final night of ABC's "Shark Tank Week," a special repeat "Shark Tank" drew more viewers than NBC's "Million Second Quiz" (+2% - 4.3 million vs. 4.2 million).
"Rookie Blue" (10:01-11:00 p.m.)
During the 10 o'clock hour, ABC's season finale of "Rookie Blue" rose sharply week to week in viewers (+12% - 4.7 million vs. 4.2 million) and Adults 25-54 (+8% - 1/3/4 vs. 1.2/3) to deliver 3-week highs - since 8/22/13. "Rookie Blue" ranked as the No. 1 most-watched series in its hour for the 10th straight week. The ABC drama also finished as the top-rated series in the hour in Adults 25-54.
· On average during its fourth season run, "Rookie Blue" was up 6% summer to summer in Total Viewers (6.6 million vs. 6.2 million), posting its most-watched season in 3 years - since Summer 2010.
Saturday
With college football coverage (Notre Dame at Purdue), ABC won Saturday in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, beating Fox with college football (from 8:00-10:00 p.m.) by 39% in Total Viewers (4.6 million vs. 3.3 million) and by 8% in Adults 18-49 (1.3/5 vs. 1.2/4). ABC was Saturday's No. 1 broadcaster for the 4th week running in both viewers and young adults.
· Airing from 8:07-11:36 p.m., "Saturday Night Football" ranked as the night's No. 1 TV program for the 2nd telecast in a row in Adults 18-49 (1.4/5).
Sunday
"20/20 - Pageant Confidential: The Road to Miss America" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)
During the 8 o'clock hour, "20/20 - Pageant Confidential: The Road to Miss America" earned strong increases with Total Viewers (+40% - 4.2 million vs. 3.0 million) and Adults 18-49 (+50% - 0.9/2 vs. 0.6/2) over the special's most recent airing (on 01/12/13) leading into the competition.
"The 2014 Miss America Competition" (9:00-11:00 p.m.)
Opposite strong competition from NBC's "Sunday Night Football" (Seattle vs. San Francisco) and CBS' NFL overrun-inflated lineup, ABC's Sunday 9:00-11:00 p.m. broadcast of "The 2014 Miss America Competition" surged over its most recent telecast in Total Viewers (+21% - 8.6 million vs. 7.1 million) and Adults 18-49 (+25% - 2.0/5 vs. 1.6/4) to deliver the program's best numbers since 2004. Hosted by ABC's Chris Harrison and Lara Spencer, "Miss America" recorded its 4th straight year of viewership gains. ABC was the No. 1 non-sports network in the time period with viewers and young adults.
· Building steadily throughout its 2-hour telecast, the numbers for "The 2014 Miss America Competition" grew by 3.0 million viewers and by 44% in young adults from its first half-hour to its final half-hour. During its final half-hour from 10:30-11:00 p.m., as Miss New York Nina Davuluri was crowned, "The Miss America Competition" drew 10.0 million viewers and a 2.3 rating, 6 share with young adults.
· In Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, ABC earned its strongest entertainment numbers in the time slot in 4 months - since 5/19/13.
