NFL ON FOX POSTS RECORD-SHATTERING WEEK 1
The NFL is back, and it was a record-shattering Week 1 for the NFL on FOX.
Week 1 was an NFL on FOX doubleheader, with four games in the regional window and two games in the late national window dominated by America's Game of the Week featuring Green Bay at San Francisco going to 94% of the country. Based on fast national ratings provided by Nielsen Media Research, the NFL on FOX doubleheader averaged a 12.9/25 and 21.8 million viewers nationally, both record-highs for an NFL on FOX opening week, and +11% vs. last season's Week 1 doubleheader (11.6/23, 19.4 million viewers). NFL in FOX also set Week 1 doubleheader records for Men 18-49 (11.3), Men 25-54 (12.1), Adults 18-49 (8.2) and Adults 25-54 (8.9).
America's Game of the Week national game (led by GB at SF) averaged a 16.6/31 and 28.5 million viewers, the NFL on FOX's best Week 1 national game rating ever. It was +8% higher than the rating/average audience for last year's national window (15.4/28, with 26.4 million viewers), and out-rated NBC's Sunday Night Football Giants/Cowboys broadcast (15.0) by +11% to score the top-rated NFL telecast of the week. It is the highest-rated and most-watched telecast of any kind since the Academy Awards in February.
The NFL on FOX's four-game regional schedule averaged a 9.0/19 with 14.7 million viewers, 13% better than last year's Week 1 regional coverage (8.0/17, 12.9 million viewers), and ranks as the most-watched Week 1 regional game on FOX ever and the second highest-rated Week 1 regional window on FOX since 1994 (9.1/23). The NFL on FOX's six regionalized afternoon games generated 2.16 million tweets, which far surpassed the number of tweets generated during Sunday Night Football in primetime (1.71 mill.) or CBS's six afternoon games (1.37 mill.).
FOX NFL SUNDAY, America's most-watched NFL pregame show since 1994, posted a 3.4/9, with 5.1 million viewers, 3% better than last year's 3.3/9 and is projected to out-deliver CBS's The NFL Today by a wide margin.
