During the week of February 4, 2013, ABC built sharply over the prior week with viewers (+35%) and young adults (+36%) to match its strongest Adult 18-49 performance since November - since w/o 11/26/12. The Net aired 4 of the week's Top 20 TV programs in Adults 18-49: "Modern Family" - No. 8, "Grey's Anatomy" - No. 12, "Scandal" - No. 17 and "The Bachelor SP-2/5" - No. 19. ABC defeated
NBC for the 3rd time in 4 weeks, leading by 47% in Total Viewers (6.3 million vs. 4.3 million) and by a season-best 58% in Adults 18-49 (1.9/5 vs. 1.2/3).
Monday
Gaining week to week (+12%), ABC earned its most-watched Monday (8.2 million) since November 26, 2012. The Net ranked No. 1 on Monday with Women 18-34 (2.8/8) for the 4th straight week.
"The Bachelor" (8:00-10:01 p.m.)
Head to head, ABC's "The Bachelor" defeated NBC's "The Biggest Loser 14" in Adults 18-49 (2.4/6 vs. 2.1/5) for the 3rd straight week, leading by a best-yet 14% (up from 9% the prior week). "The Bachelor" won its 2-hour time slot in Women 18-34 (3.5/9) for the 4th week in a row. Despite facing CBS' all-original comedy block, "The Bachelor" matched the prior week season-high number in Total Viewers and retained nearly all in of its Adults 18-49 audience (96%).
"Castle" (10:01-11:00 p.m.)
ABC's "Castle" earned second place in the 10 o'clock hour, nearly tripling the overall audience (+187% - 8.9 million vs. 3.1 million) of NBC's "Deception" and leading the NBC drama by 79% in Adults 25-54 (2.5/6 vs. 1.4/3) and by 64% in Adults 18-49 (1.8/5 vs. 1.1/3).
Tuesday
ABC (2.4/7) ran a competitive second on Tuesday in Adults 18-49 to CBS' original drama lineup, beating Fox's 2-hour comedy block by 26% (1.9/5) and NBC with the season premiere of Smash by 100% (1.2/3). The Net ranked No. 1 on the night in Adults 18-34 and key Women (W18-34/W18-49).
· The Net posted its strongest Tuesday since November 27, 2012, marking its 2nd-best performance on the night this season with entertainment programming.
"The Taste" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)
Building week to week in viewers (+10% - 5.3 million vs. 4.8 million) and young adults (+13% - 1.8/5 vs. 1.6/4), ABC's "The Taste" outdelivered Fox's comedies by 13% ("Raising Hope"/"Raising Hope" = 1.6/5) and NBC's Betty White special by 13% (1.6/4) from 8:00-9:00 p.m. in Adults 18-49.
"The Bachelor" (9:00-11:00 p.m.)
From 9:00-11:00 p.m., the second part of a 2-night "The Bachelor" grew to win its time period with Adults 18-49 (2.7/7), beating CBS dramas by 17% ("NCIS: LA"/"Vegas" = 2.3/6) and more than doubling NBC's 2-hour second season opener of "Smash" (+125% - 1.2/3). Up over Monday's telecast by 13% in Adults 18-49, "The Bachelor" achieved a new season high. The ABC unscripted series was Tuesday's No. 1 TV show with Women 18-34.
· Excluding only "Dancing" premieres and finales, "The Bachelor" delivered ABC's top entertainment Adult 18-49 rating in the time period since May 17, 2011.
Wednesday
ABC was a competitive No. 2 on Wednesday in Adults 18-49 (2.2/6) to Fox with a 2-hour "American Idol." ABC's "Modern Family" finished as Wednesday's No. 1 scripted TV show across all key Adult demos (AD18-34/AD18-49/AD25-54).
"The Middle" (8:00-8:30 p.m.)
At 8:00 p.m., ABC's "The Middle" took second place to "Idol," beating its NBC comedy competition ("Whitney") by 4.6 million viewers (8.2 million vs. 3.6 million) and by 92% in Adults 18-49 (2.3/7 vs. 1.2/4).
"The Neighbors" (8:30-9:00 p.m.)
Building week to week and taking second at 8:30 p.m., ABC's "The Neighbors" dominated its freshman comedy competition in the half-hour, beating NBC's "Guys with Kids" by 88% in viewers (6.0 million vs. 3.2 million) and by 42% in Adults 18-49 (1.7/5 vs. 1.2/3). "The Neighbors" was up over the prior week by 13% in viewers and by 6% in Adults 18-49.
"Modern Family" (9:00-9:31 p.m.)
Spiking over its lead-in at 9:00 p.m. (+118%), ABC's "Modern Family" beat its nearest scripted competition in the half-hour by 27% in Adults 18-49 (3.7/10 vs. 2.7/7 - CBS' "Criminal Minds").
"Suburgatory" (9:31-10:00 p.m.)
In the 9:30 p.m. half-hour, ABC's "Suburgatory" grew week to week by 21% in Total Viewers (5.7 million vs. 4.7 million) and by 11% in Adults 18-49 (2.0/5 vs. 1.8/4).
"Nashville" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)
During the 10 o'clock hour, ABC's "Nashville" ranked No. 1 in Adults 18-34 (1.4/5-tie) and won its slot in Women 18-34 (2.1/6) for its 4th straight original telecast. Season to date "Nashville" is delivering substantial increases via TV playback, gaining 55% in Adults 18-49 (+1.1 rating points - from a 2.0 L+SD rating to a 3.1 L+7 rating). The new ABC drama also adds on 2.8 million viewers to its preliminary L+SD average in the L+7 finals (6.2 million to 9.0 million).
Thursday
Building week to week in Adults 18-49 (+9% - 2.4/7 vs. 2.2/6), ABC matched its top-rated Thursday with series programming since October 4, 2012.
"Shark Tank" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)
During the 8 o'clock hour, ABC's repeat "Shark Tank" was up week to week in viewers (+4% - 4.8 million vs. 4.6 million) and young adults (+18% - 1.3/4 vs. 1.1/3), drawing 26% more viewers than NBC's first-run comedies (season premiere of "Community"/"Parks and Recreation" = 3.8 million).
"Grey's Anatomy" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)
Spiking over its lead-in (+138%) at 9:00 p.m., ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" (3.1/8) moved up into a tie for No. 1 in its hour in Adults 18-49 (with "Person of Interest"), beating Fox's "Idol"-fueled "Glee" by 41% (2.2/6) and NBC's comedies by 94% ("The Office"/"1600 Penn" = 1.6/4). The ABC veteran drama dominated its time period in Adults 18-34 and across all key Women demos (W18-34/W18-49/W25-54).
· Gaining 11% week to week, "Grey's" earned its highest Adult 18-49 rating in 4 weeks - since 01/10/13. In addition, the show scored its best Women 18-49 number since October 18, 2012.
"Scandal" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)
Delivering strong lead-in retention (90%), ABC's "Scandal" (2.8/8) won the 10 o'clock hour in Adults 18-49 by a best-ever 27% over CBS' Super Bowl-promoted "Elementary" (2.2/6), and quadrupled NBC's "Do No Harm" (+300% - 0.7/2). It was the No. 1 series in its time period for its 7th telecast in a row with young adults.
· Up for its 2nd straight original in Adults 18-49 (+4%), "Scandal" equaled a series high. In fact the show matched or hit new series highs across all key Adult and Women demos. Over the course of its last 6 originals, "Scandal" has produced the series' Top 6 telecasts in Adults 18-49.
· "Scandal" improved the hour year to year by 25% in viewers (8.1 million vs. 6.5 million) and by 27% in young adults (2.8/8 vs. 2.2/6).
Friday
ABC ranked as the No. 1 major network on Friday in Adults 18-49 (1.5/5) over season premiere/series debut programming on the other nets, outdelivering NBC by 7% (1.4/4), CBS by 15% (1.3/4) and Fox by 50% (1.0/3). ABC's "Shark Tank" was the No. 1 TV show of the night in Adults 18-49 on the major nets. The Net matched its top-rated Friday in 4 weeks - since January 11, 2013.
"Last Man Standing" (8:00-8:31 p.m.)
At 8:00 p.m., ABC's "Last Man Standing" stood as the most-watched program in its slot (7.3 million) and beat CBS' series debut of "The Job" by 67% in Adults 18-49 (1.5/5 vs. 0.9/3) and Fox's season premiere of "Touch" by 36% (1.3/4). Building week to week in Total Viewers (+6%) and Adults 18-49 (+7%), "Last Man Standing" earned its best numbers since November - since 11/9/12 and 11/30/12, respectively.
"Malibu Country" (8:31-9:00 p.m.)
Like its lead-in, ABC's "Malibu Country" beat out premiere programming on CBS and Fox in the 8:30 p.m. half-hour with Total Viewers (6.1 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.3/4). Gaining over the prior week (+2%/+8%), "Malibu Country" drew its biggest audience since December 14, 2012 and its highest Adult 18-49 number since January 11, 2013. Through the most recent season-to-date Nielsen data (19 complete weeks), ABC's "Malibu Country" is now TV's most-watched new comedy, surpassing NBC's "The Voice"-boosted "Go On."
"Shark Tank" (9:00-10:01 p.m.)
Surging from its lead-in by 46% to stand as Friday's top-rated show on the major nets, ABC's "Shark Tank" towered over its network rivals in the 9 o'clock hour in Adults 18-49 (1.8/5), beating CBS' "CSI: NY" by 13% (1.6/5), the second hour of NBC's 2-hour "Dateline" by 20% (1.5/4) and the second hour of Fox's 2-hour "Touch" premiere by 100% (0.9/3).
"20/20" (10:01-11:00 p.m.)
During the 10:00 p.m. hour, ABC's "20/20" defeated NBC's time-period premiere of "Rock Center with Brian Williams" by 6% in the Adult 25-54 news demo (1.8/5 vs. 1.7/5) and by 8% in Adults 18-49 (1.3/4 vs. 1.2/4).
Saturday
ABC won Saturday over its broadcast competitors in Adults 18-49 (1.1/3), topping CBS with a "Grammys" special by 38% (0.8/3), Fox by 38% (0.8/3) and NBC by 83% (0.6/2). The Net scored its highest-rated Saturday since January 11, 2013.
"ABC Saturday Movie of the Week: Despicable Me" (9:00-11:00 p.m.)
ABC's broadcast premiere of theatrical "Despicable Me" ranked No. 1 in its 2-hour time slot in Adults 18-49, beating CBS with "The Grammys Will Go On"/"48 Hours" by 44% (1.3/4 vs. 0.9/3). The ABC Saturday movie was the night's highest-rated broadcast program in Adults 18-49, Teens 12-17 and Kids 2-11. "Despicable Me" was ABC's top Saturday night movie in both Total Viewers (4.0 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.3/4) since the Net's premiere of "The Blind Side" in April 2012 (since 4/28/12).
Sunday
"America's Funniest Home Videos" (7:00-8:00 p.m.)
During the 7 o'clock hour, ABC's "America's Funniest Home Videos" ranked No. 1 in Adults 18-49 (1.8/5-tie) and was the top broadcast show with Men 18-49, key Women (W18-34/W18-49), Teens 12-17 and Kids 2-11.
· "AFHV" hit a season high in Adults 18-49 with its top rating since May 6, 2012.
"Once Upon a Time" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)
On its first original telecast in 3 weeks against the "Grammy Awards," ABC's "Once Upon a Time" built on its lead-in at 8:00 p.m. (+22%) among Adults 18-49, with a 16% lead over its nearest regular broadcast competition (2.2/5 vs. 1.9/5 for Fox's "The Simpsons"/"Bob's Burgers").
· Despite facing the "Grammy Awards," "Once Upon a Time" retained more than 90% of its last first-run telecast in Total Viewers (92%) and Adults 18-49 (92%), while growing 8% Kids 2-11 (100%).
"Revenge" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)
Also returning to original for the first time since January 20th during the 9:00 p.m. hour, ABC's "Revenge" drew 21% more viewers than Fox's comedies (5.2 million vs. 4.3 million for "Family Guy"/"American Dad").
· Season to date, ABC sophomore "Revenge" is up 25% in Total Viewers and 28% in Adults 18-49 from the same point in its freshman season.
