Delivering its Best-Ever Lead-in Retention, ABC's "Scandal" Dominates its Drama Competition and Builds Over its Last Original to its 2nd-Highest Adult 18-49 Rating

"Grey's Anatomy" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

"Scandal" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)

Delivering its best lead-in retention ever out of an original "Grey's" (92%/96%), ABC's "Scandal" won the 10 o'clock hour in Adults 18-49 (2.7/8) by 22% over CBS' "Elementary" (biggest margin ever - 2.2/6) and tripled NBC's series debut of "Do No Harm" (+200% - 0.9/3). A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 47% currently, from 43% at the same point in 2012. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next-day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
