Disney Channel January 2013 Total Day and Prime Highlights
Following its best competitive year ever, Disney Channel ranked as January's #1 TV network in Total Day across all major youth demos, Kids 2-11 (1.01 million/2.6 rating), Kids 6-11 (663,000/2.8 rating) and Tweens 9-14 (578,000/2.4 rating), and was the #1 cable TV network in Total Viewers (1.9 million). Notably, this was the network's most-watched January on record in Total Viewers, Kids 2-11 and Tweens 9-14, and highest rated ever in Kids 6-11.
January marked Disney Channel's 21st consecutive month as TV's #1 network in Kids 6-11 (dates back to May 2011), the 33rd straight month in Tweens (dates back to May 2010), and 19th month in a row out-delivering Nickelodeon by double-digits. In fact, the network levied its largest monthly competitive advantage ever in Tweens 9-14 (+76% - 578,000 vs. 329,000) and 2nd-largest in Kids 6-11 (+43% - 663,000 vs. 465,000).
In Prime, Disney Channel extended its streak as TV's #1 network to 96 consecutive months in Kids 6-11 (1.1 million/4.5 rating) and to 91 months in Tweens 9-14 (929,000/3.9 rating).
· "Austin & Ally" stood as the #1 series across all TV in Kids 2-11 (2.2 million/5.4 rating), Kids 6-11 (1.8 million/7.4 rating) and Tweens 9-14 (1.7 million/7.0 rating).
· The January 4 airing of Disney's "Tangled" (8:00 - 9:45 p.m.) ranked as the month's #1 scripted cable TV telecast in Total Viewers (6.0 million), with the network home to 3 of the Top 4 overall: #3 "Despicable Me" (5.1 million, 12/31/12, 8:00 - 9:45 p.m.) and #4 "Tangled" encore (4.9 million, 1/5/13, 9:00 - 10:45 a.m.).
· Overall, Disney Channel delivered the month's Top 3 TV telecasts in Kids 2-11, Top 4 TV telecasts in Kids 6-11 and Top 7 cable TV telecasts in Tweens 9-14 (Top 5 below):
Disney Junior - January 2013
Disney Junior, the daily programming block for kids age 2-7 on Disney Channel, soared to January highs in Total Viewers (1.9 million), Kids 2-5 (482,000/3.0 rating), Girls 2-5 (273,000/3.5 rating) and Women 18-49 (339,000/0.5 rating).
With newcomer "Sofia the First," the block delivered the month's #1 cable TV series in Kids 2-5 (750,000/4.7 rating) and Girls 2-5 (454,000/5.8 rating), and the #1 preschool cable TV series in Total Viewers (2.1 million) and Women 18-49 (451,000/0.7 rating).
Impressively, the January 11 launch of "Sofia the First" is the #1 preschool series debut in cable TV history in Girls 2-5 (859,000/11.0 rating), Adults 18-49 (1.2 million/1.0 rating) and Women 18-49 (853,000/1.3 rating), based on a full week of viewing, and the #1 launch in over 12 years in Kids 2-5 (1.2 million/7.7 rating). In addition, with "Sofia the First" and "Doc McStuffins," Disney Channel owns the Top 2 preschool series launches ever in Total Viewers, Adults 18-49 and Women 18-49.
· Overall, the block secured the month's Top 4 cable TV series in Kids 2-5 and the Top 4 preschool cable TV series in Total Viewers and Women 18-49 with "Sofia the First," "Jake and the Never Land Pirates," "Doc McStuffins" and "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse" (varying order), while "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse" and "Jake and the Never Land Pirates" were the Top 2 cable TV series in Boys 2-5.
