Adult Swim continued its success by once again ranking as basic cable's #1 network in total day among adults 18-24, adults 18-34 and adults 18-49, as well as among young male demos. Meanwhile, Cartoon Network got December off to a strong start by ranking as the #1 network on all television in total day delivery of boys 9-14. In other Turner ratings news, TBS's acquired hit The Big Bang Theory dominated basic cable's sitcom charts for the week; truTV scored solid growth compared to the same week last year; TNT marked the return of Rizzoli & Isles and Leverage for their winter runs; and NBA TV's coverage of the 2012-13 regular season is up compared to last season.
Adult Swim
Maintaining November's strong performance, Adult Swim this week ranked as basic cable's #1 network for Total Day Delivery of young adults 18-34, 18-24 & 18-49, as well as men 18-34 & 18-24 (#2 among men 18-49 behind ESPN). Total Day delivery gains vs. the same time period in 2011 include average adults 18-24 increasing by 15%, adults 18-34 by 2%, adults 18-49 by 3% and men 18-24 by 6%.
Adult Swim again ranked among the Top 5 basic cable networks in Prime Time, earning substantial delivery growth among young adults and men vs. 2011 - adults 18-24 increased by 28%, adults 18-34 by 11%, adults 18-49 by 14%, men 18-24 by 21%, men 18-34 by 1% and men 18-49 by 3%.
Adult Swim's original series Robot Chicken (Sunday, 12 a.m.) ranked #1 in its time period among young adults 18-24, 18-34 and 18-49. A new episode scored double and triple-digit delivery gains across the board - adults 18-24 grew by 116%, adults 18-34 by 86%, adults 18-49 by 61%, men 18-24 by 52%, men 18-34 by 55% and men 18-49 by 33%. Immediately following, original series Superjail (12:15 a.m.) ranked #1 in its time period among adults 18-24 & 18-34, earning delivery gains among all adults and men 18-34 & 18-24, ranging between 9% and 76%.
Adult Swim programming - including Family Guy, American Dad and Robot Chicken - accounted for 17 of the top 50 telecasts of the week on basic cable among adults 18-34, more than any other network.
Cartoon Network
Cartoon Network improved Early Prime (7-9 p.m.) delivery of all key kids demos last week compared to the same time period last year - average kids 2-11 delivery grew by 4%, kids 6-11 by 9% and kids 9-14 by 23%. Total Day delivery averages also grew last week, with kids 6-11 delivery improving by 1% and kids 9-14 by 12%. Accordingly, Cartoon Network ranked as the #1 network in Total Day on All TV among boys 9-14.
The Monday night presentation of Cartoon Network's original animated comedy series Adventure Time (7:30 p.m.) scored as the #1 telecast of the day among boys 6-11, #1 in its time period among all kids 9-14 and boys 2-11 & 9-14, and charted delivery gains across all kid demos - kids 2-11 improved by 7%, kids 6-11 by 4% and kids 9-14 by 20%. Immediately following, Regular Show claimed the #1 telecast of the day among boys 9-14, and #1 in its time period among boys 2-11 & 6-11. Encore presentations of these original animated comedies also led Friday night's performance to rank as the #1 destination on all TV for boys 2-11, 6-11 & 9-14, earning double and triple digit delivery increases vs. last year ranging between 58% and 123%.
Tuesday night's telecast of original series The Amazing World of Gumball (7 p.m.) ranked #1 in its time period among boys 6-11 & 9-14, increasing kids 6-11 delivery by 11% and kids 9-14 delivery by 32%, vs. last year's time period. The Looney Tunes Show (8 p.m.) also ranked #1 in its time period among boys 6-11, increasing kids 6-11 delivery by 2% and kids 9-14 delivery by 9%.
Wednesday night's action-adventure series Ninjago (7:30 p.m.) ranked #1 in its time period among all boys 2-11, 6-11 & 9-14 on basic cable, as did Dragons: Riders of Berk (8 p.m.) and original animated series Ben 10: Omniverse (8:30 p.m.).
TBS
The Big Bang Theory entered the final month of the year with another stellar week. TBS's acquired hit accounted for 16 of basic cable's Top 20 sitcom telecasts last week with total viewers, 17 of the Top 20 among adults 18-49 and 14 of the Top 20 with adults 18-34. The Big Bang Theory is on track to finish 2012 as basic cable's #1 acquired series.
Last week, TBS's CONAN chalked up outstanding +16% growth among total viewers (926,000) and adults 18-49 (586,000), compared to the same week last year. The show also delivered 279,000 adults 18-34. Meanwhile in Live + 7 delivery for the week of Nov. 12-Nov. 15, CONAN drew more than 1 million viewers; 303,000 adults 18-34; and 625,000 adults 18-49. For the quarter-to-date, CONAN is up +10% among total viewers and +2% among adults 18-49, compared to Q4 2011.
truTV
truTV averaged 1 million viewers in primetime last week, a +4% boost over the same week last year.
truTV's breakout hit Hardcore Pawn (Tuesday at 9 p.m.) scored an outstanding 2.7 million viewers last week and ranked as basic cable's #1 unscripted program in the timeslot with adults 18-49 (1.4 million); adults 18-34 (617,000); and men 18-49 (827,000). The show also ranked #2 in the timeslot with adults and men 18-49, plus men 18-34 (346,000), trailing only The Big Bang Theory on TBS. In addition, Hardcore Pawn delivered double-digit time-period growth among total viewers and key demos.
Wednesday night's episode of Operation Repo at 10 p.m. drew a total of 1.3 million viewers, a +15% increase over the same date and time last year. The long-running hit also garnered strong timeslot increases among adults 18-34 (+25%) and men 18-34 (+18%).
Also scoring double-digit demo growth for their respective timeslots last week were truTV's newest original series, Killer Karaoke (Friday at 9 p.m.) and the acquired hit Wipeout (Sunday at 8 & 9 p.m.). Both series also drew young audiences, with Killer Karaoke's median age (36) coming in two years younger than the same timeslot last year, and Wipeout's median age (33) dropping a remarkable 13 years.
TNT
Rizzoli & Isles returned last Tuesday to kick off its winter run, drawing more than 3.4 million viewers in Live + Same Day and ranking as basic cable's #1 scripted original in the timeslot. The hit crime drama also brought in 1 million adults 18-49 and 1.3 million adults 25-54.
TNT's hit caper series Leverage scored more than 1.9 million viewers in Live + Same Day delivery for its midseason premiere last Tuesday, including 643,000 adults 18-49 and 772,000 adults 25-54.
NBA TV
Through 21 live game telecasts, NBA TV is averaging 352,000 total viewers, an increase of +4% compared to the network's coverage of the prior regular season (96 game telecasts). In addition, NBA TV's four NBA Fan Night presented by Sprint telecasts this season are averaging 492,000 total viewers, a boost of +8% compared to last season (455,000 total viewers for 22 telecasts).
