Turner Broadcasting Q3 2012 Network Ratings Highlights

TNT

TNT scored several remarkable competitive victories, securing its position as home to cable's top original dramas. Leading the pack are returning hits like The Closer and Rizzoli & Isles and breakout newcomer Major Crimes, which together rank as cable's Top 3 series of the quarter.

TNT was especially successful launching new dramas this year, charting the #1 and #2 new original series of the quarter with Major Crimes and Perception, as well as the Top 5 new series Dallas. In addition, all three dramas rank among the Top 10 new shows of the quarter in delivery of adults 18-49 and 25-54, with Dallas and Major Crimes landing in the Top 5.

Overall, TNT's original series accounted for four of basic cable's Top 10 series with total viewers and three of the Top 10 with adults 25-54. In addition, The Closer, Rizzoli & Isles, Major Crimes and Perception accounted for 13 of basic cable's Top 20 telecasts for the quarter in total viewers.

Time-shifted viewing data indicates millions of viewers are making a concerted effort to catch every episode of their favorite TNT dramas. Each TNT drama added at least 1.8 million viewers through time-shifted viewing, with Major Crimes, Perception and Dallas exceeding 2 million time-shifting viewers and The Closer, Rizzoli & Isles and Falling Skies surpassing 3 million. In addition, The Closer's series finale grew to 11.2 million viewers in Live+7, making it the most-watched series finale in basic cable history.

TBS

TBS, which ranks as basic cable's #1 network among adults 18-34 in primetime for the year-to-date, charted extraordinary growth this quarter, with delivery of total viewers up 45% among total viewers compared to Q3 2011. TBS's demo deliveries were up 22% with adults 18-34 and +36% with adults 18-49.

TBS's new original sitcom Men at Work ranked among basic cable's Top 10 new series with adults 18-34 and adults 18-49. In its first season, Men at Work averaged 2.5 million viewers in Live+7, with 1.6 million adults 18-49.

TBS's newest original sitcom, Sullivan & Son, has averaged 2.7 million viewers, with 1.5 million adults 18-49. The show ranks among basic cable's Top 10 new series this quarter among adults 18-34.

The Big Bang Theory, which has been a major driver of TBS's growth since last September, ranked as basic cable's #1 acquired series for the quarter-to-date, with 2.5 million viewers and 1.3 million adults 18-49.

After ranking as basic cable's #1 sitcom of 2011, Tyler Perry's For Better or Worse returned this quarter with all new episodes. The show has averaged 2.0 million viewers and 1.0 million adults 18-49 this quarter.

In late night, TBS's Emmy?-winning CONAN averaged 958,000 viewers in Q3, up 10% over the same quarter last year. CONAN also garnered 305,000 adults 18-34 and 621,000 adults 18-49.

Adult Swim

Across Q3 2012, Adult Swim ranked #1 among all basic cable for Total Day delivery of adults 18-34, adults 18-49, men 18-34, and men 18-49. Adult Swim also ranked #3 in Prime Time delivery of adults 18-34 among basic cable networks, with an average delivery up +2% compared to last year.

New original series Black Dynamite (Sunday, 11:30 p.m.) and Robot Chicken (Sunday, 12 a.m.) ranked #1 in their respective timeslots with adults and men 18-34/18-49 on basic cable, while Metalocalypse (Sunday, 12:15 a.m.) and Childrens Hospital (Thursday, 12 a.m.) ranked #1 in their respective time periods with adults 18-34/18-49. Premiere episodes of Metalocalypse, Squidbillies, and Aqua Something You Know Whatever grew by mostly double-digits vs. the same time periods year ago among adults and men 18-34/18-49, with lifts ranging between 8% and 36%.

Cartoon Network

Cartoon Network is on track to make Q3 2012 the most-watched third quarter in its history during Early Prime with kids 9-14 and boys 9-14, in the past 8 years with kids and boys 2-11, and in the past 6 years with kids and boys 6-11. Cartoon Network is also on track to claim its most-watched third quarter during Total Day in the past 6 years with kids 6-11/9-14 and boys 9-14.

Cartoon Network ranked as the #1 network in Total Day and Early Prime (7-9 p.m.) on all of television with boys 2-11, 6-11 and 9-14. Early Prime (7-9 p.m.) delivery increased among key kids vs. the same time period last year: kids 2-11 delivery increased by 2%, kids 6-11 by 1%, and kids 9-14 by 13%. Total Day (6a-9p) delivery grew among kids 9-14 (up 14%).

Cartoon Network was the #1 destination on Monday Night (7-9p) with all key kids (2-11, 6-11 & 9-14) and boys demos, increasing with kids demos vs. Q3 2011. Original, animated comedies' Adventure Time (7:30 p.m.), Regular Show (8 p.m.), and Annoying Orange (8:30 p.m.) ranked #1 in their respective time periods among all key kids and boys. Premieres of Adventure Time and Regular Show increased delivery by double-digits vs. the same time period in 2011. Regular Show was the #1 program on all TV with boys 6-11, while Annoying Orange was the #1 series on Mondays with all boys.

Cartoon Network programming took the Top 12 telecasts on all of TV with boys 6-11, with Ninjago premiere episodes placing in the Top 5 spots in the demo. Across the quarter, Ninjago (Wednesday, 8p) ranked #1 in its time period among kids 2-11/6-11 and all boys, while increasing by triple-digits across the board vs. the same time period year ago.

Cartoon Network was the only top 3 kids' network to increase in Early Prime (7-9 p.m.) with kids 2-11 kids 6-11, & kids 9-14 vs. the prior year.

truTV

Hot on the heels of finishing its biggest summer ever, truTV is now on track to earn its most-watched third quarter ever in delivery of adults 18-34 (259,000); adults 18-49 (568,000); and men 18-34 (139,000). truTV is also on pace to finish among cable's Top 10 entertainment networks in Q3 delivery of men 18-34 (139,000).

Lizard Lick Towing (Mondays at 10 p.m.) continues chalking up excellent ratings, drawing 2.9 million viewers for the third quarter. The series ranks among basic cable's Top 3 programs in the timeslot among key adult demos, as well as among the Top 5 programs in its timeslot with male demos and total viewers. Lizard Lick Towing also boasts a median age of only 37, four years younger than the same time period last year.

Hardcore Pawn (Tuesdays at 9 p.m.) has averaged 2.9 million viewers this quarter, continuing its status as one of truTV's top shows. The show ranks among basic cable's Top 3 programs in its timeslot with key male demos and total viewers, as well as among the Top 5 with key adult demos.

Storage Hunters (Sundays at 10 p.m.) has brought in more than 2 million viewers, giving truTV a hit on television's most competitive night of the week. The show ranks among basic cable's Top 5 programs in its timeslot with adults 18-49 (976,000) and men 18-49 (517,000), with double-digit timeslot growth across the board.

Operation Repo (Wednesdays at 10 p.m.) shows no signs of slowing down, with a current average of more than 1.6 million viewers for the long-running hit and double-digit growth for its timeslot.

South Beach Tow (Wednesday 9:30 p.m.) drew more than 1.6 million viewers for its season 2 launch on Sept. 19. The premiere scored double-digit growth in key adult and male demos compared to the show's first-season average and ranked as one of basic cable's Top 5 programs in the timeslot with adults 18-49 and key male demos.

Impractical Jokers (Thursdays at 10 p.m.), truTV's hilarious breakout hit, is averaging 1.9 million viewers for its fall run and recently scored its biggest delivery of adults 18-49 (1,138,000 on Sept. 20). The show ranks among basic cable's Top 5 programs in the timeslot with key adult and male demos. Compared to the same time period last year, Impractical Jokers is delivering triple-digit growth across the board, while also dropping the median age to 32, 9 years younger than year ago.

CartoonNetwork.com is the #1 site among K6-11 unique visitors in the kids entertainment category for Q3-to-date. Additionally, CartoonNetwork.com ranks within the Top 10 overall web domains among K6-11 for the quarter-to-date, beating competitors such as Nick.com and DisneyChannel.com. (Source: comScore)

The Cartoon Network Video app saw nearly 700k new downloads from Q3-to-date in 2012, aided by the launch of the Watch & Play update in early August. Q3-to-date in 2012 saw a +331% increase in downloads compared to the same time last year. YouTube video consumption from Q3-to-date in 2012 on the Adult Swim channel continues to remain well above levels seen last year, with a rise of +460% (from 2.3 million to 12.8 million average monthly plays).
