VH1 Primetime Ratings Surge 33% in Adult 18-49 Demo in First Quarter 2012
March Marks VH1's 10th Consecutive Month of Year-Over-Year Primetime Growth in Network's Target Adult Demo
VH1 Ranked as #1 Cable Network Among Women 18-49 on Monday Nights
NEW YORK, March 26, 2012 -- VH1's primetime ratings for the first quarter of 2012 soared +33%, propelled by a number of original hit series such as "Mob Wives," "T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle," "Basketball Wives" and "Love & Hip Hop."
The network averaged a .4 in the adult 18-49 demo in primetime for the time period of December 26, 2011 - March 25, 2012. VH1's monthly performance for March marked the network's 10th consecutive month of year-over-year primetime viewer growth in the target adult demo.
Total viewer primetime impressions (P 2+) throughout the quarter also surged ahead on VH1. The network averaged 645,000 in primetime, up +30% over the first quarter of 2011.
VH1 also attracted women in substantial numbers on Monday evenings. The network ranks as the #1 cable network among women 18-49 on Mondays in primetime for the quarter.
In addition, VH1's original series and specials such as "Whitney Houston: Death Of A Diva" and "100 Greatest Women in Music" generated substantial social buzz, resulting in multiple trending topics on Twitter and significant upticks in Facebook page likes. For example, "Basketball Wives" generated 17 trending topics on Twitter a half hour before the season premiere started on February 20th.
Ratings momentum is expected to continue in the second quarter with the return of the Queen Latifah-produced hit scripted series "Single Ladies," premieres of new series "Mob Wives Chicago,""Couples Therapy", and "House of Consignment" and new episodes of "Behind The Music" featuring Brandy, T-Pain and Notorious B.I.G.
Specific VH1 ratings highlights for the quarter include:
"T.I. and Tiny: The Family Hustle" first season averaged a 1.5 P18-49 Live+SD rating in the 18-49 demo and 2.4 million total viewers across its premiere episodes, the highest rated debut season on VH1 in nearly three years.
"Love & Hip Hop 2" averaged a 1.8 P18-49 Live+SD rating (up +157% from season 1) and 2.8 million Total Viewers (up +164% from season 1) across its eleven premieres, VH1's highest rated series in over three and a half years.
The February 20th season opener of "Basketball Wives," set in Miami, tied as the highest rated episode yet of the "Basketball Wives" franchise, averaging a 1.7 in the key adult 18-49 demo. This season's premiere was up +42% from the prior season opener of "Basketball Wives." The 8PM* episode was seen by 2.5 million total viewers. When combined with its 9:30 PM* encore, the premiere episode attracted 3.7 million total viewers.
"Mob Wives'" second season is averaging a 1.1 P18-49 rating through 10 episodes (up +31% from season 1) and 1.7 million Total Viewers (up +31% from season 1) across seven premieres. The series drove VH1 to win the W18-49 Sunday 8pm time period across all of cable thus far in first quarter 2012.
