ABC's "JKL" Turns in its Strongest Repeat-Week Numbers Since October

Some early points on Jimmy Kimmel Live's weekly numbers, ahead of the regular press release:

During the week of July 4, 2011, ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live's week of repeats built over its prior week of originals by 3% in Total Viewers and by 3% in Adults 18-49, marking its best numbers in 4 weeks. In fact, delivering its 2nd-highest repeat-week performance of the season in viewers and young adults, JKL turned in its strongest week of repeats in more than 9 months - since w/o 10/4/10.

JKL also saw double-digit percent gains year-to-year, growing by 12% in viewers and by 23% in young adults over its year-ago week of repeats (w/o 7/5/10). JKL stood as the only late-night broadcast program to grow over the same week last year in Adults 18-49, as NBC's Tonight Show with Jay Leno (-3%), Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (-6%) and Last Call with Carson Daly (-9%) and CBS' Late Show with David Letterman (-12%) and Late Late Show with Ferguson (-14%) were all down from their year-ago repeat-week performances.

· ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live's week of repeats outperformed CBS' Ferguson's week of originals by 23% in Total Viewers and by an impressive 31% in Adults 18-49, marking its 17th weekly win over the CBS late-night program in viewers and 7th straight victory in young adults. JKL drew a larger overall audience than Ferguson in all 5 nights of the week and topped the CBS program by double-digit percentages in 4 of 5 nights in the young adult demo: Monday (+24%), Tuesday (+47%), Thursday (+35%) and Friday (+44%).

· ABC's JKL's week of repeats beat TBS' Conan's week of repeats by 51% in Adults 18-49, scoring its 8th win in 9 weeks over the TBS late-night program.

Season to Date, "Nightline" is Drawing its Largest Overall Audience in 8 years

During the week of July 4, 2011, ABC's "Nightline" finished second among the late-night programs across each of the target demos: Total Viewers (3.984 million), Adults 25-54 (1.554 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.211 million), according to Nielsen Media Research. For the 2nd week in a row, the ABC program built on the previous week in Total Viewers (+5%), Adults 25-54 (+8%) and Adults 18-49 (+10%) to deliver its strongest performance in 4 weeks - best since w/o 6/6/11.

In addition, "Nightline" improved on its year-ago week for the 4th time in the last 6 weeks in Total Viewers (+13%) and Adults 25-54 (+5%). In fact, "Nightline" saw its overall audience grow year to year for the 19th time in the last 21 weeks.

Season to date, "Nightline" ranks first in late-night among Total Viewers and Adults 25-54. This is the first time ever that "Nightline" has been in first place at this point in the season since at least the 1993-94 season, when "Letterman" began on CBS. In addition, "Nightline" is up by +5% in Total Viewers and by +4% in Adults 25-54 compared to the same point last year. Season to date, "Nightline" is drawing its largest overall audience in 8 years - since the 2002-03 season.

Note: Due to the July 4th holiday on Monday, all three programs were coded specials and were excluded from the average. The weekly averages for all three programs are based on 4 days only (Tuesday-Friday).

During the week of July 4, 2011, ABC grew week to week for the 2nd week in a row in both Total Viewers (+13% - 2.377 million vs. 2.103 million) and Adults 18-49 (+11% - 835,000 vs. 750,000), scoring its best numbers in late-night in 4 weeks - since w/o 6/6/11. In addition, ABC was up year to year for the 2nd consecutive week in viewers (+18% - 2.377 million vs. 2.011 million) and young adults (+16% - 835,000 vs. 720,000), standing as the only broadcast network to grow over the year-ago week in Adults 18-49.

ABC grew its overall late-night audience year to year the most of any broadcast network (NBC was up +7%; CBS was down -14%) and stood as the only broadcast net to grow over the year-ago week in young adults (NBC was down -4%; CBS was down -14%).

· ABC outperformed CBS by 26% in Total Viewers (2.377 million vs. 1.894 million) and by 28% in Adults 18-49 (835,000 vs. 653,000).

During the week of July 4, 2011, ABC's "Nightline" finished second among the late-night programs across each of the target demos: Total Viewers (3.984 million), Adults 25-54 (1.554 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.211 million), according to Nielsen Media Research. In fact, "JKL" turned in its strongest week of repeats in more than 9 months (since w/o 10/4/10) in viewers and young adults, delivering its 2nd-highest repeat-week performance of the season.

"JKL" also saw double-digit percent gains year to year, growing by 12% in viewers and by 23% in young adults over its year-ago week of repeats (1.404 million and 525,000 on w/o 7/5/10).

· "JKL" stood as the only late-night broadcast talk show to grow over the same week last year in Adults 18-49, as NBC's "Tonight Show with Jay Leno" (-3%), "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" (-6%) and "Last Call with Carson Daly" (-9%) and both CBS' "Late Show with David Letterman" (-12%) and "Late Late Show with Ferguson" (-14%) were all down.

"JKL" drew a larger overall audience than "Ferguson" in all 5 nights of the week and topped the CBS program by double-digit percentages in 4 of 5 nights in the young adult demo: Monday (+24%), Tuesday (+47%), Thursday (+35%) and Friday (+44%).

· ABC's "JKL" beat TBS' "Conan" by 51% in Adults 18-49 (647,000 vs. 428,000, scoring its 8th win in 9 weeks over the TBS late-night program.
