"Late Show" Beats "The Tonight Show" in Viewers, Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54
"The Late Late Show" Wins in Viewers, Adults 18-49, Adults 25-54 and Ties "Late Night" in Adults 18-34 for the First Time
CBS's LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN and THE LATE LATE SHOW with CRAIG FERGUSON finished ahead of NBC's late night programs in viewers and key demographics, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for the week ending Nov. 20.
LATE SHOW posted a 2.8/08 in households with an average of 3.98m viewers, 1.3/06 in adults 25-54, 1.0/04 in adults 18-49 and 0.7/03 in adults 18-34.
LATE SHOW beat "The Tonight Show" in households by +65% (vs. 1.7/05), viewers by +71% (vs. 2.33m), adults 25-54 by +18% (vs. 1.1/05) and tied in adults 18-49.
LATE SHOW improved its competitive position against "The Tonight Show" compared to last year. CBS leads NBC by +67% in households this season (3.0/08 vs. 1.8/05) compared to trailing by -18% last year (2.8/07 vs. 3.4/09). In viewers, LATE SHOW has a +72% advantage (4.26m vs. 2.47m) compared to trailing by -18% last year (3.96m vs. 4.82m). In adults 25-54, LATE SHOW enjoys a +27% advantage (1.4/06 vs. 1.1/05) compared to -13% in 2008 (1.4/06 from 1.6/06). In adults 18-49 season-to-date, LATE SHOW and "Tonight" are tied (1.0/04, each) compared to 2008 when LATE SHOW trailed by -15% (1.1/05 vs. 1.3/05).
THE LATE LATE SHOW posted a 1.4/05 in households with 1.89m viewers, 0.6/04 in adults 18-49, 0.5/03 in adults 18-34 and 0.7/04 in adults 25-54.
THE LATE LATE SHOW beat "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" in households (vs. 1.0/04, +40%), viewers (vs. 1.27m, +49%), adults 25-54 (vs. 0.6/03, +17%), adults 18-49 (vs. 0.5/03, +20%) and tied in adults 18-34. This is the first time since Craig Ferguson began hosting (January 3, 2005) that LATE LATE SHOW tied "Late Night" in adults 18-34.
LATE LATE SHOW also beat "Jimmy Kimmel Live" in viewers (vs. 1.76m, +7%), adults 18-49 (vs. 0.5/03, +20%) and adults 18-34 (vs. 0.3/02, +67%).
LATE LATE SHOW improved its competitive position against "Late Night" compared to last year. CBS leads NBC by +40% in households this season (1.4/05 vs. 1.0/04) compared to being tied last season (1.4/05 each, with Conan O'Brien hosting). LATE LATE SHOW has a +42% advantage in viewers (1.94m vs. 1.37m) compared to trailing by -3% last year (1.87m vs. 1.92m). Among adults 25-54, LATE LATE SHOW has a +17% lead in 2009 (0.7/04 from 0.6/04) after being tied last season (0.8/04 vs. 0.8/05). In adults 18-49, LATE LATE SHOW and "Late Night" are tied (0.6/04 vs. 0.6/03). In 2008, CBS trailed NBC by -14% in adults 18-49 (0.6/03 vs. 0.7/04).
