WEEK No. 7:

Building its overall Men numbers for the 3rd straight week, ABC hit its top Adult 18-49 rating (2.7/7-tie) and best numbers across each of the key Men demos (M18-34 1.6/5, M18-49 2.1/6 and M25-54 2.6/7) in 5 weeks since w/o 9/28/09.

Season to date, ABC is delivering TV's top-rated series with upscale young adults. ABC claims 7 of the Top 20 highest-rated regular TV series this season among high income Adults 18-49 (in homes w/$100K+ annual income), including the No. 1 series ("Grey's Anatomy") and 3 of the Top 4 freshman series ("Modern Family," "FlashForward" and "Cougar Town"): "Grey's Anatomy" (9.12 rating) No. 1, "Desperate Housewives" (6.69) No. 4, "Private Practice" (5.74) No. 7, "Modern Family" (5.00) No. 11, "Brothers & Sisters" (4.71) No. 14, "FlashForward" (4.58) No. 17 and "Cougar Town" (4.53) No. 19.

Rankings: ABC delivered 3 of the week's Top 4 scripted shows in Adults 18-49, including the Top 2, as well as the TV Season's highest-rated freshman series telecast with the debut of "V": "V" No. 1 scripted, "Grey's Anatomy" No. 2 scripted and "Desperate Housewives" No. 4 scripted. The Net aired 5 of Top 10 most-watched non-sports television programs overall during the week: "DWTS" No. 3, "DWTS Results" No. 7, "V" No. 8, "Grey's" No. 9 and "Housewives" No. 10. ABC once again delivered the Top 2 TV shows for the week across all key Women demos (W18-34/W18-49/W25-54) with "Grey's" and "Housewives." ABC's "Modern Family" qualified as TV's No. 1 new comedy for the week in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49.

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 33% currently, from 28% at the same point in 2008. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.

Monday

ABC stood as the night's most-watched non-sports network (14.4 million) on Monday, beating CBS by 3.0 million viewers (11.4 million) and NBC by 9.2 million viewers (5.2 million).

Up against the World Series, ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" ranked as TV's most-watched series program (16.7 million) on Monday for the 7th week in a row. "Dancing with the Stars" outperformed NBC's original dramas, "Heroes"/"Trauma," by 10.9 million viewers (16.7 million vs. 5.8 million) and by 55% in Adults 18-49 (3.4/8 vs. 2.2/5) in the 2-hour time period.

For the 2nd consecutive week, ABC's "Castle" outperformed NBC's "Jay Leno" in the 10 o'clock hour with its largest margins to-date in both Total Viewers (+5.5 million viewers 9.4 million vs. 3.9 million) and Adults 18-49 (+100% - 2.4/6 vs. 1.2/3). The sophomore drama saw week-to-week increases among Adults 18-34 (+6% - 1.8/5 vs. 1.7/5) and Women 18-34 (+10% - 2.3/7 vs. 2.1/6), posting season highs in both measures.

Topping CBS' spinoff "NCIS: LA" series debut in September by 18% (5.2/14 vs. 4.4/11 - which had the added advantage of airing out of the season opener of "NCIS"), "V" qualified as the top-rated Tuesday night fall series debut among Adults 18-49 on any network since 2005 and ABC's highest since 2003 since 9/20/05 and since 9/23/03, respectively.

"V" opened with the highest Adult 18-49 rating for a regularly slotted 8:00 p.m. drama debut (any net/any night) since ABC's "Lost" in September 2004 (9/22/04).

"Dancing with the Stars the Results Show" (9:00-10:01 p.m.)

Tuesday's most-watched unscripted TV show, ABC's "Dancing with the Stars the Results Show" outdrew NBC's "Biggest Loser" in direct competition during 9 o'clock hour by 5.5 million viewers (15.1 million vs. 9.6 million), its biggest advantage of the season.
