"Dancing with the Stars" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)
Facing stiff competition during its telecast from 8:00-10:00 p.m. (CBS = "NCIS" and "NCIS: Los Angeles"/NBC = 2-hour "Biggest Loser"/Fox = 2-hour "Hell's Kitchen"), the second night of ABC's 3-night "Dancing with the Stars" premiere event took second place to CBS with its "NCIS" block in Total Viewers (15.2 million) and Adults 18-49 (3.5/9). In fact in its 2-hour slot, ABC's "DWTS" outdrew its combined unscripted competition on NBC and Fox, surpassing "Biggest Loser" by 7.7 million viewers (7.5 million) and "Hell's Kitchen" by 8.4 million viewers (6.8 million). From 9:00-10:00 p.m., "DWTS" moved up to the No. 1 position in its second hour across all key Women demos (W18-34/W18-49/W25-54), topping CBS' "NCIS: Los Angeles."
"Dancing" generated ABC's biggest overall audience with regular programming in the 2-hour time period in nearly 2 years and its highest Adult 18-49 number in 10 months since 11/27/07 and 11/25/08, respectively.

In Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, "The Forgotten" produced the Network's highest numbers in the hour with a regular scripted series telecast in almost 1-1/2 years since 4/22/08.
A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to more than 33% currently, from 27% at the same point in 2007. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
