WEEK No. 15:

For the week of 12/31/07, ABC posted its best numbers in Total Viewers (8.4 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.7/7) in 4 weeks since w/o 12/03/07. ABC took second for the week across each of key women demos: Women 18-34 (2.6/8), Women 18-49 (3.3/9) and Women 25-54 (3.8/9).

Rankings: ABC aired 5 of the Top 20 TV programs of the week in Adults 18-49, including the No. 1 scripted series with "Desperate Housewives": "Desperate Housewives" No. 3, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" No. 6, "Supernanny SP-1/2" No. 14, "Cashmere Mafia SP-1/6" No. 18 and "Supernanny" No. 20. The Net placed 2 shows in the week's Top 10 among Total Viewers, including the No. 1 scripted series with "Desperate Housewives": "Desperate Housewives" No. 4 and "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" No. 9. In addition to ranking the highest-rated series in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, ABC's "Desperate Housewives" was also the week's top telecast overall across each of the key women (W18-34/W18-49/W25-54).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year to year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating trends based on the Live + Same Day data stream may be somewhat distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, nearly doubling from over 11% during the same point in 2006 up to more than 21% currently. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. Therefore, the only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.

Monday

ABC's New Year's Eve lineup of the "ABC Monday Movie of the Week: Shrek 2" and "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve 2008" won Monday evening in both Total Viewers (7.8 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.4/8), beating the second-place networks by 2.7 million viewers (5.1 million - CBS) and by 85% in Adults 18-49 (1.3/5 - Fox).
