�Scripps National Spelling Bee� Boosts ABC�s Time Period Delivery by 1.8 Million Viewers and 10% in Adults 18-49 from the Same Night a Year Ago, Attracting The Net�s Largest Non-Sports Summer Audience in the Slot in More Than 2 Years

ABC News� �Primetime� Attracts its Biggest Audience in 10 Weeks And Wins the 10 O�clock Hour Among Adults 18-34 and Women 18-34

Thursday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)

With strong turnouts for the �2006 Scripps National Spelling Bee� and ABC News� �Primetime,� ABC took second place to CBS on Thursday night among Total Viewers (8.1 million), outpacing NBC (5.0 million) and Fox (7.9 million). The Network also took second place on the evening among Adults 18-34 (2.1/7), Teens 12-17 (1.3/5) and Kids 2-11 (1.3/6).

� Compared to the same night a year ago, ABC�s primetime delivery (8.1 million & 2.5/7) improved by 1.7 million viewers and by 19% in Adults 18-49 (6/2/05 = 6.4 million viewers and 2.1/6 in Adults 18-49).

�2006 Scripps National Spelling Bee� (8:00-10:00 p.m.)

Building audience steadily during each half-hour of its telecast, ABC�s first-ever primetime broadcast of the �Scripps National Spelling Bee� attracted an average audience of 8.0 million viewers to earn second place from 8:00-10:00 p.m., outdrawing NBC (4.8 million) and Fox (7.9 million). Additionally, the �Bee� took second place in the time period with Teens 12-17 (1.3/5) and Kids 2-11 (1.5/6). Katharine �Kerry� Close, a 13-year-old speller from Spring Lake, NJ, won the �2006 Scripps National Spelling Bee� Thursday night. She was named the National Spelling Bee Champion in the 20th round after correctly spelling the word �ursprache.� Kerry is the first female champion since 1999.

Please Note: Since the �Spelling Bee� aired until 10:11 p.m., there are still 11 minutes of program to be added into the averages once the final national ratings become available this afternoon.

� The �2006 Scripps National Spelling Bee� improved the time period for ABC by 1.8 million viewers (8.1 million vs. 6.2 million) and 10% in Adults 18-49 (2.2/7 vs. 2.0/6) over its performance a year ago in the slot (6/2/05). With the �National Spelling Bee,� ABC drew its largest audience in the time period in 8 weeks � since 4/6/06. Excluding only the NBA Championships and NFL pre-season �MNF,� the �Bee� produced ABC�s biggest audience in the time period during a summer frame (outside of the TV Season) in more than 2 years � since 9/18/03.

� Steadily gaining audience throughout its broadcast, the �National Spelling Bee� grew by 2.4 million viewers (6.7 million to 9.1 million) and 50% in Adults 18-49 (1.8/6 to 2.7/7) from its first half-hour to its final half-hour.

�Primetime� (10:00-11:00 p.m.)

Featuring Diane Sawyer�s look at the crisis of the foster care system and at ways children can be saved, ABC News� �Primetime� won the 10 o�clock hour among Adults 18-34 (2.4/8) and Women 18-34 (3.3/10).

� �Primetime� drew its largest audience (8.4 million) in 10 weeks � since 3/23/06.
