LIFETIME ANNOUNCES THE THREE-NIGHT DOCUMENTARY EVENT "THE PRISON CONFESSIONS OF GYPSY ROSE BLANCHARD" FEATURING UNPRECEDENTED ACCESS WITH BLANCHARD TO SHARE HER STORY, HER WAY
EXECUTIVE PRODUCED BY EMMY NOMINATED CRIME CORRESPONDENT MELISSA MOORE AND PRODUCED BY THE A+E FACTUAL STUDIOS(TM) GROUP,
THE DOC SPECIAL WILL KICK OFF JANUARY 5
Los Angeles, CA (October 12, 2023) - As Lifetime approaches its 40th anniversary of sharing women's stories in 2024, the network announces the three-night documentary event, The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, providing Blanchard the platform to share her story, her way. The six-hour special, premiering as two-hour episodes on January 5, 6 and 7th at 8pm ET/PT, features unprecedented access to Blanchard, a victim of Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy who suffered horrific abuse and made national headlines for her role in her mother's violent murder. Currently still incarcerated, Gypsy's shocking story has been told by many others but now, as she approaches her release in December, she is finally ready to tell her truth before she becomes a free woman for the first time in her life. The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard comes from Category 6 Media, part of the A+E Factual Studios(TM) group and Emmy(R) nominee Melissa Moore (Monster in My Family) who executive produces and has documented Gypsy since 2017.
"As Lifetime approaches its 40th anniversary next year, we are excited that Gypsy, like many other women before her, has entrusted us to help tell her story," said Elaine Frontain Bryant, EVP and Head of Programming A&E, Lifetime and LMN. "From the emotional prison Gypsy lived in with Dee Dee to the physical one that she is in now, we are deeply honored to partner with Gypsy as she embarks on this next phase of her life."
"After a lifetime of silence, I finally get to use my voice to share my story and speak my truth. As a survivor of relentless child abuse, this docuseries chronicles my quest for liberation and journey through self-discovery," said Gypsy Rose Blanchard. " I am unapologetically myself and unafraid to expose the hidden parts of my life that have never been revealed until now."
"I've been documenting Gypsy's 'coming of age' in prison for the past seven years and over the course of this time, I watched her transform into a woman who holds responsibility for her past and now has the courage to face an unknown new free world for the first time," said executive producer, Melissa Moore.
A truly ripped from the headlines story, the documentary features Gypsy in prison on the eve of her parole hearing as she recounts her emotional journey of being forced to remain a child, held prisoner by her own mother and the unfathomable choice she made in order to survive. The doc also follows the road to Gypsy's prison wedding and reveals Ryan, her fiancé, for the first time. From prison, Gypsy delves into her account of the secrets, lies and manipulation that were constant in her life. Dee Dee was believed to have the mental disorder Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy and beginning at Gypsy's infancy, her mother told people Gypsy was sick in order to position herself as the selfless caregiver. Outwardly, Dee Dee was a loving mother who would do anything for her daughter whose list of ailments grew from leukemia, to muscular dystrophy and much more, but behind closed doors, Gypsy was living a nightmare, forced to be wheelchair bound and given a feeding tube for illnesses she never had. The truth eventually came out with the shocking murder of Dee Dee by Gypsy's boyfriend she met online. The doc features fascinating yet troubling tales of Gypsy's attempted escapes, secret love life and the depths of the psychological control her mother had on her. With remarkable access to insiders, the doc includes exclusive interviews with Gypsy's family and those closest to the case. Never-before-seen photos, medical records, videos, and evidence, also bring hidden secrets to the surface and add new insights to this complex story, including Gypsy's life now, as a married woman.
The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard joins Lifetime's roster of award-winning, top tier documentaries including Surviving R. Kelly, Janet Jackson., Wendy Williams: What a Mess, Aly Raisman: From Darkness to Light and many others.
The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard is a Category 6 Media(TM) production, part of the A+E Factual StudiosTM group, with Sharon Scott, Laura Fleury, Carolyn B.
