Documentary Explores the Extraordinary Journey and Challenges Faced by Latin American Baseball Players in Pursuit of Major League Dreams
Trailer Released Today
LOS ANGELES - Today, FOX Sports Films announces the premiere of FINDING HOME: JOURNEY TO MLB, a compelling, new documentary that provides an in-depth look into the extraordinary and unique journey of Latin American minor league baseball players and the many challenges they face pursuing the Major League Baseball (MLB) dream. Executive produced by acclaimed filmmaker Seth Gordon ("The Night Agent", "Back in Action") along with Nikki Calabrese ("The Long Game: Bigger Than Basketball") and Matt Romito and directed by Samuel Peltz the documentary premieres tomorrow, Saturday, Aug. 5 at 11:30 PM ET on FS1, and will simulcast on FOX Deportes following FOX Sports' presentation of the Los Angeles Dodgers at the San Diego Padres.
"FOX Sports invites viewers on an emotional and inspirational journey following these talented Latin American baseball players embarking on their lifelong dream to play in the Major Leagues," said Barry Nugent, Vice President, Development and Original Programming, FOX Sports. "Under Seth Gordon's creative guidance, the film captures the steadfast resilience and determination of these ballplayers, who emigrate to the United States, that is not readily visible to spectators of the game."
FINDING HOME: JOURNEY TO MLB explores the passion, determination, and unwavering dedication shown by a group of young Latin American athletes in the Chicago Cubs farm system who leave behind their families and train for a chance to one day play in the major leagues. The film places viewers inside baseball training academies and shines a spotlight on the unknown challenges many minor league ballplayers endure to reach their dreams. Their struggles often include learning a second language, assimilating into American culture, and the anxiety and fear of failing to succeed. Approximately 6% of professional baseball players make it to the major leagues.
Through first-hand interviews, and unprecedented access into a player's journey through the minor leagues, with perspectives of Cubs prospects along with the voices of Willson Contreras and Victor Martinez, FINDING HOME: JOURNEY TO MLB reveals the formula for success needed to play in MLB and discloses the raw emotions experienced when chasing a dream. While most of these young athletes dominate the sport physically, the film peels back the layers on the intense mental and emotional pressure sustained both on and off the field to achieve a certain level of greatness.
FINDING HOME: JOURNEY TO MLB is executive produced by Seth Gordon, Nikki Calabrese, and Matt Romito. Eric Shanks, Mark Silverman, Charlie Dixon and Barry Nugent of FOX Sports also serve as executive producers. The film is co-produced by MLB and the Chicago Cubs' in-house production team, Cubs Productions, and is directed by Samuel Peltz.
