WNBA Commissioner's Cup Championship Game returns for third year
NEW YORK - May 22, 2023 - Prime Video begins coverage of the 2023 Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) season on Thursday, May 25, at 10:00 p.m. EDT, with a WNBA Commissioner's Cup game between the Phoenix Mercury and the Minnesota Lynx. This season, Prime Video will exclusively stream 20 WNBA games, including five doubleheaders, as well as the WNBA Commissioner's Cup Championship Game.
Throughout the 2023 season, Prime Video will air four games as part of the annual WNBA Commissioner's Cup, including the Commissioner's Cup Championship Game on Tuesday, August 15. The in-season competition designates a portion of regular-season games - 10 per team - as Cup play. The team from each conference with the top record in designated Cup games will then compete for the Commissioner's Cup Championship and a special prize pool. The remaining games on Prime Video will take place during the second half of the regular season, after the conclusion of Commissioner's Cup play.
"We are excited to offer the action of the WNBA to Prime members on Thursdays this season, bringing them closer to the players and teams they love," said Marie Donoghue, vice president of Global Sports Video at Amazon. "Our investment in women's sports extends beyond our live coverage, as we're dedicated to highlighting storytelling about female athletes, and empowering female leadership in front of and behind the camera. We are thrilled to bring the excitement of women's basketball to Prime Video again this season, and look forward to continuing to champion women's sports."
Prime Video has exclusive global streaming rights (excluding China, Japan, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Finland, and Germany) to its schedule of 20 WNBA games and the Commissioner's Cup Game. These select games are in addition to continued live coverage of the Seattle Storm, available exclusively to Prime members in Washington state. Prime members enjoy savings, convenience, and entertainment, all in a single membership.
As part of a Prime membership, the WNBA on Prime Video will be available across hundreds of compatible devices worldwide, streaming from the web, or using the Prime Video app on smartphones, tablets, set-top boxes, game consoles, and connected TVs. Prime Video games may also be distributed in the participating teams' markets through the teams' local distribution partners. For a complete list of compatible devices, visit amazon.com/howtostream.
