'El Eternauta' series starts to become reality: filming began in Buenos Aires
The first audiovisual adaptation of the iconic graphic novel by Héctor Germán Oesterheld illustrated by Francisco Solano López, will be a contemporary version produced by Netflix together with K&S Films and Bruno Stagnaro.
Bruno Stagnaro, its director and responsible for the script, shares his vision with us:
For me, El Eternauta represents my father bringing me the comics every week. I believe it was one of the first things I read in its entirety in my life, at the age of 10, and it had a profound impact on my way of understanding fiction made in my country.
The feeling that first reading left me was with me throughout my life and, in some way, had a great influence on what I did later... A feeling that the city is a living presence, almost like one more character.
I think that part of the charm of making El Eternauta is understanding how to overcome the technical difficulty involved in building the world in which it happens. This will be an unusual challenge for our industry, and that motivates me a lot, because I believe it can set a precedent on facing this type of project in our country.
My approach to the adaptation will be to be faithful to that child reader who looked at the story for the first time, trying to reconstruct the genuine emotion of living an adventure in the corner of the neighborhood and the construction of that great Argentine hero who is Juan Salvo.
Matías Mosteirin, executive producer of K&S Films, adds:
Producing El Eternauta is an enormous technical and artistic challenge and entails a great responsibility, that is why we are working with the best and most talented argentine professionals, and with a great author and director such as Bruno. We have been working on the development of this project for a few years to ensure that it is up to the quality of the original work. Starting the production is the materialization of a dream for the whole K&S team.
Martín M. Oesterheld -grandson of the author and writer of the original graphic novel- who participates as a creative consultant of the series, complements:
We have been working with Bruno on the development of the scripts for his adaptation of El Eternauta for some years. The story of the resistance of Juan Salvo and his brave group of combatants is a true challenge for the entire Argentine audiovisual industry, a local look at how to make science fiction, from this 'Southern Hemisphere that is also part of the planet', as my dear grandfather would say.
About El Eternauta, the series:
After a deadly snowstorm that kills millions, Juan Salvo along with a group of survivors fight against an alien threat, controlled by an invisible force.
Ricardo Darín will play Juan Salvo, this being his debut in an original Netflix production. Also joining the cast are: Carla Peterson, César Troncoso, Andrea Pietra, Ariel Staltari, Marcelo Subiotto, Claudio Martínez Bel, Orianna Cárdenas and Mora Fisz, among other actors and actresses.
It will have 6 episodes that have been written by Bruno Stagnaro, along with Ariel Staltari.
Filming will take place on locations and sets in Buenos Aires.
