Apple TV+ announces cast for new drama "Las Azules"

"Las Azules" Casting

· Apple TV+ today revealed additional casting for "Las Azules," the thrilling new Spanish-language one-hour crime drama from International Emmy Award-winning showrunner and director Fernando Rovzar ("Monarca," "Sr. Ávila") and Pablo Aramendi ("José José,""Tijuana," "Los Elegidos"). Emmy Award nominee Wendy Riss ("Yellowstone," "Genius," "The Killing"), Erica Sanchez Su ("Monarca," "La Venganza de Las Juanas," "Paramédicos") and International Emmy Award winner Billy Rovzar ("Monarca," "Control Z," "Sr. Ávila") serve as executive producers.

· Currently in production in Mexico City, the series features an entirely Hispanic cast and crew, led by Ariel Award nominee Bárbara Mori ("La Negociadora," "El Complot Mongol," "La Mujer De Mi Hermano") as María, a devoted wife who discovers her true calling when she joins Mexico's first female police force, and her entire belief system comes crashing down.

· Set in 1970 and inspired by true events, "Las Azules" tells the story of four women who defy the ultra-conservative norms of the time and join Mexico's first female police force, only to discover that their squad is a publicity stunt to distract the media from a brutal serial killer. As the body count grows, María, whose determination to catch the killer becomes an obsession; Gabina, an aspiring officer; Ángeles, a brilliant fingerprint analyst; and Valentina, a young rebel, set up a secret investigation to achieve what no other male officer has been able to do and bring the serial killer to justice.

· Starring in the series alongside Bárbara Mori are the newly revealed:

· Ximena Sariñana ("La casa de las flores," "Rebelde") as Angeles, a brilliant fingerprint analyst with undiagnosed Asperger's Syndrome who lives with her grandmother. When she was growing up, Angeles was different from the other girls her age, with her incredible intelligence, attention to detail, obsessive knowledge on various esoteric topics - and at times a lack of awareness of social rules and norms.

· Natalia Téllez ("Enfermo amor," "Todo por Lucy") as Valentina, a rebellious young woman, as intelligent as she is passionate. Driven by her desire to end injustice everywhere, she often joins any cause, big or small, if it involves social disruption. Uncompromising in her beliefs, she expects everyone to view the world the way she does.

· Amorita Rasgado ("El Dandy," "Locas por el cambio") as Gabina, the youngest of four siblings and the only daughter of Police Captain Herrera. Her brothers eventually followed family tradition and joined the force, but Gabina was discouraged from pursuing her dreams of becoming a police officer.

· Leonardo Sbaraglia ("Corazon Errante," "Maradona, Sueño Bendito," "Dolor y Gloria," "El otro Hermano," "Relatos Salvajes," "Epitafios") as Alejandro de la Torre, the charismatic, handsome, and loving husband to Maria and father to Alex and Mar. Much like Maria, Alejandro, at least on the outside, is the perfect image of 1970s conservative society, as an architect, he is a junior partner at a prestigious firm and has the ambition required to rise to the top.

· Miguel Rodarte ("Búnker," "Los enviados," "Luis Miguel") as Octavio Romandía, who on the surface is a washed-out, divorced, ex-cop with a drinking problem, a hair-trigger temper, and an unwillingness to take orders. He was kicked off the force for breaking his commanding officer's nose, but being offered the job of training the female police corps will offer him a much needed chance at redemption.

· Christian Tappan ("El robo del siglo," "Distrito salvaje", "Primate", "Lavaperros") as Escobedo, campaign manager for the newly elected President Echeverría before being named Chief of Police. Escobedo is success-driven, task-oriented, and charming, volunteering to head the police and re-design its heavily tainted image after the 1968 student massacre.

· Horacio Garcia-Rojas ("Diablero," "Narcos: Mexico") as Gabina's brother Gerardo, the main detective in the unsolved Undresser case, and when Las Azules begin investigating on their own, Gerardo is the first one to oppose them.

· Rosa María Bianchi ("Monarca," "Sabrás que Hacer Conmigo") as Luz, Maria and Valentina's tragicomic mother. Believing herself to be more necessary than she really is, Luz constantly interferes in other people's lives. On the outside, it's her way of helping, but on the inside, it's a desperate need to not feel worthless as she silently drags around the pain of having lost her middle daughter, Natalia.

· Sebastián Buitrón ("Narcos: Mexico," "Amsterdam") as Lucas, a sociologist who fell in love with the fiery Valentina during one of many student protests in 1967. They protested and fought together until Lucas decided to fight for change through journalism.

· Bruno Bichir ("Ozark," "The Mosquito Coast") as Goyo Cárdenas, a serial killer who has studied law during his imprisonment. His advice and insight will ultimately help Las Azules to understand the Undresser's criminal mind.

· The series is produced by International Emmy Award-winning Lemon Studios ("Monarca," "Control Z," "Sr. Ávila").

· "Las Azules" is part of a growing number of Apple Originals from award-winning storytellers, including the English and Spanish-language thriller "Now & Then"; "Echo 3," a new action-thriller set between South America and the US, and written by Academy Award-winning producer and writer Mark Boal; new stories from the multi-Academy Award and BAFTA Award-winning director, writer, producer, cinematographer and editor Alfonso Cuarón, who currently has an overall deal to develop television projects exclusively for Apple TV+ through his production company Esperanto Filmoj; the medical drama "Midnight Family" based on award-winning documentary "Familia de Medianoche" created for television by Ariel Award winner Gibrán Portela ("Güeros," "The Untamed") and Julio Rojas ("La Jauría"); and "Acapulco," the Critics Choice Award-nominated Spanish and English-language comedy series starring Eugenio Derbez, now streaming on Apple TV+.

· Apple TV+ offers premium, compelling drama and comedy series, feature films, groundbreaking documentaries, and kids and family entertainment, and is available to watch across all your favorite screens. After its launch on November 1, 2019, Apple TV+ became the first all-original streaming service to launch around the world, and has premiered more original hits and received more award recognitions faster than any other streaming service in its debut. To date, Apple Original films, documentaries, and series have earned 278 wins and 1,164 award nominations and counting, including multi-Emmy Award-winning comedy "Ted Lasso" and this year's Oscar Best Picture winner "CODA.
