BLACK CAKE (Hulu) - Mia Isaac will join Adrienne Warren in the streamer's Charmaine Wilkerson adaptation as Covey, "a fierce biracial teenager, growing up in Jamaica in the late 1960's. As the star swimmer of her community, Covey plans to use her talents to swim around the world-until her dreams are threatened by her overprotective father, who begins to meddle in her personal life. As a result, Covey is put in a position where she must choose between her family and herself, and she spends the rest of her life facing the consequences." (Deadline.com)
FELONIOUS MONK (FOX, New!) - Michael Brandon Guercio is developing a new drama at the network based on William Kotzwinkle's novel, about "a disgraced cop with anger issues-turned-monk who returns to his hometown to take care of his dead uncle's outstanding business debts, and suspects foul play. Now, he's forced to abandon his serene monastery life in order to solve his uncle's murder and other homicide cases." Jordan Cerf of Mosaic will also executive produce for FOX Entertainment while Kotzwinkle serves as consultant. (Deadline.com)
MAGNUM P.I. (CBS) - Universal Television is in talks with siblings NBC and USA Network to continue the series following its cancellation by CBS after four seasons. It's understood NBC would land the new episodes with USA getting its previous seasons. CBS Studios, who co-produced the series, however has yet to begin talks with the networks. Options on the series' cast expire at the end of the month. (Deadline.com)
NEW LOOK, THE (Apple TV+) - John Malkovich, Emily Mortimer and Claes Bang have all been cast in the period drama. Malkovich will play Lucien Lelong, "President of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture whose influential eponymous fashion house employed Dior and Balmain during the Occupation." Mortimer then will portray Eva Colozzi, "friend, confidante and style inspiration to Coco Chanel"; and Bang is Spatz (Hans Von Dincklage), "a Nazi operative stationed in Paris to both seduce and spy on the Parisian female elite." NIGHT COURT (NBC) - Dimiter Marinov will recur on the reboot series as Nikolai, "the court's maintenance man. A staple character within the building, Nikolai pops up in the day-to-day lives of the crew. He's a mystery to everyone around the courthouse - and he likes it that way." (Deadline.com)
NOT DEAD YET (ABC) - Co-creators David Windsor and Casey Johnson have signed a new three-year overall deal with producer 20th Television, home to the midseason comedy. (Deadline.com)
PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS (Disney+) - Virginia Kull, Glynn Turman, Jason Mantzoukas, Megan Mullally and Timm Sharp will recur on the upcoming adaptation of the Rick Riordan book series. Kull will appear as Sally Jackson, "Percy's loving, protective and selfless mother. Sally raised her son knowing that one day she'll have to give him up to the dangerous world of the Olympian gods." Turman is Chiron/Mr. Brunner, "disguised as Percy's Latin teacher Mr. Brunner, Chiron is the famed centaur and trainer of heroes who provides Percy with moral guidance when needed." Mantzoukas is set as Dionysus/Mr. D., "the irritable and sarcastic Mr. D runs Camp Half Blood, a camp for the demigods." Mullally will play Alecto/Mrs. Dodds, "Percy's strict, irascible math teacher who may act monstrous at times, because she is. She's one of the three Furies, known as Alecto, who loyally serves Hades, the god of the underworld." And Sharp is Gabe Ugliano, "Sally's selfish, brash, and combative husband as well as Percy's stepfather." (Variety.com)
