BIG DOOR PRIZE, THE (Apple TV+) - Chris O'Dowd has been tapped to star in the 10-episode comedy series as Dusty, "a good-natured teacher and family man whose deeply average life has followed a safe and predictable path, until the appearance of the mystifying machine forces him to question his own happiness." (Variety.com)
BUNNY & CLYDE (HBO Max, New!) - Jeffery Self and Cole Escola have booked a potential comedy at the streamer about "two lost and codependent souls - Clyde (Self), a broken gay thirtysomething in the midst of an unmedicated bipolar episode, and Bunny (Escola), a non-binary, self-identifying cabaret star - get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reinvent themselves and a second chance at happiness. But not until they first live in a dead man's house, assume new identities and convince an entire Palm Springs community that the guy is still alive while they sell off his estate." Nancy Pimental, Jon Thoday, Richard Allen Turner, David Martin, Kara Baker and Chloe Pisello will also executive produce the project, which is based on a short video pilot presentation, for Avalon Television. COUNTRY EASTERN (FOX, New!) - Comedian Vir Das has sold a single-camera comedy to the network about "a young wealthy man from India (a role earmarked for Das) who restarts his life in America with his family. While attempting to rebuild their lives in Memphis, Tennessee, he decides to pursue his passion and become a country music singer. Only problem, he's sh*t. Total sh*t. He's going to have to gain some life experience in the States if he wants to have something 'real' to sing about." Das and Sam Laybourne will co-write the script to the project, which has a penalty attached, with Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, Jorma Taccone and Reg Tigerman also executive producing for Party Over Here, FOX Entertainment and CBS Studios. GEORGE & TAMMY (Spectrum) - Michael Shannon is on track to star opposite Jessica Chastain in the limited series about country music legends George Jones and Tammy Wynette. Additionally, John Hillcoat is slated to direct all six installments. (Deadline.com)
HIPSTER DEATH RATTLE (The CW, New!) - Writer Rafael AgustÃn and director Marvin Lemus are set to team for a small screen take on Richie Narvaez's novel at the netlet, "set in a historically Latino neighborhood that's falling victim to aggressive gentrification." Wilmer Valderrama and Kaitlin Saltzman of WV Entertainment and Corinne Brinkerhoff and Tiffany Grant for Green Ribbon will also executive produce for CBS Studios. (Deadline.com)
KINGDOM BUSINESS (BET+) - Yolanda Adams, Serayah, Michael Jai White, Michael Beach and Chaundre A. Hall-Broomfield are the first to be cast in the music-driven drama. Adams will play "the reigning 'Queen of Gospel' Denita Jordan"; with Serayah as Rbel, "a talented up-and-coming gospel star with a troubled past who threatens Denita's crown"; White as Julius "Caesar" Jones, "a powerful producer and Denita's former collaborator turned rival"; Beach as Calvin Jordan, "Denita's husband and Bishop of First Kingdom Church"; and Hall-Broomfield as Taj Jordan, "the son of Calvin and Denita and the apple of his mother's eye." Also slated to recur are Tamar Braxton as Sasha, La'Miya Good as Essence, Aspen Kennedy as Zyan, Kiandra Richardson as C.J. Jordan-Walker, Kajuana Shuford Marie as Dani and Sam Malone as Dex. LAST OF US, THE (HBO) - Nick Offerman has signed onto the video game adaptation as Bill, "a hardened survivalist who aids Joel and Ellie on their way to to meet the Fireflies. In the original video game, Bill crafts weapons and traps to keep the runners, stalkers and the rest of the undead at bay." He replaces Con O'Neill, who exited the project due to a scheduling conflict. (Deadline.com)
MARE OF EASTTOWN (HBO) - Craig Zobel has extended his overall deal with the pay channel for an additional three years. (Deadline.com)
NAOMI (The CW) - Stephanie March has booked a six-episode arc on the newcomer as Akira, "who is originally from a planet far away, but is now hiding on Earth. Naomi seeks her out, looking for answers." (Variety.com)
ONLY TO DECEIVE (ABC, New!) - Paul Sciarrotta has landed a potential drama at the Alphabet, a modern-day adaptation of Tasha Alexander's bestselling novel: "As Lady Emily Ashton, the toast of New York City's high society, tries to make sense of her late husband's mysterious death, she stumbles into a secret career as a private investigator alongside her polar opposite, Long Island ex-cop Colin Hargreaves." Milo Ventimiglia and Russ Cundiff of DiVide Pictures will also executive produce for 20th Television with Deanna Harris as a producer. (Deadline.com)
