FELLOW TRAVELERS (Showtime, New!) - Matt Bomer is attached to star in a potential small screen take on Thomas Mallon's novel, "described as a political thriller and epic love story that unfolds in the era of McCarthyism and resolves in the age of AIDS. It follow the intertwined lives and volatile romance of two very different men, Hawkins "Hawk" Fuller (Bomer) and Tim Kovacs, through purges, wars, protests, and plagues, overcoming obstacles in the world and in themselves." Writer Ron Nyswaner and director Michael Grandage are spearheading the project with Bomer and Robbie Rogers also executive producing for Fremantle. (Variety.com)
GREY'S ANATOMY (ABC) - Abigail Spencer is slated to return as Megan Hunt during the upcoming 18th season of the medical drama. (Deadline.com)
LA CABEZA DE JOAQUÍN MURRIETA (Amazon, New!) - Juan Manuel Bernal and Alejandro Speitzer are set to star in a new series at the streamer set at the Mexico-U.S border in 1851, "a period fueled by greed, anger, and xenophobia when an all-out war is waged. Against this background, the series tracks the adventure of two men: Joaquín Murrieta, a legendary outlaw whose status rose to that of a Mexican Robin Hood, played by Bernal; and Carrillo, Alejandro Speitzer's character. Their paths cross amidst a violent misunderstanding, but they unite to face a common enemy, Harry Love, embodied by Steve Wilcox. Yoshira Escárrega plays Damace, Emiliano Zurita is Casey, and newcomer Becky Zhu Wu takes on the role of Adela Cheng." Dynamo's Diego Ramírez Schrempp and Fidelio's Mauricio Leiva-Cock are behind the project, which will be shot in Mexico, with Humberto Hinojosa Ozcariz and David Pablos slated to direct. Juliana Flórez Luna is producing. (Variety.com)
MR. & MRS. SMITH (Amazon) - Phoebe Waller-Bridge has exited the streamer's adaptation of the 2005 film over "a different creative vision for the series than Donald Glover, with whom she was poised to star." Glover and Francesca Sloane remain as co-creators with Waller-Bridge's departure detailed as "an amicable split." (THR.com, 9/6)
OLGA DIES DREAMING (Hulu) - Jessica Pimentel is the latest to board the drama pilot as Mabel Ortiz, "who is as street smart as she is book smart. She loves a good time; the first on a dance floor and the last off. She has opinions and isn't afraid to express them, and she refuses to take the time to wrap them in a nice bow. Her big personality masks a more sensitive interior. She worships her cousin Prieto (Ramón Rodríguez) but, despite having been raised like sisters, her relationship with Olga (Aubrey Plaza) is now more fraught." (Deadline.com)
ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO (The CW) - Andrew Lees and Zoe Cipres will both recur on the show's fourth season. Lees will play Clyde, "part of a duo of thieves robbing Roswell's banks, determined to steal back what's rightfully theirs. He is a man with deeply held beliefs, fighting to keep his family on the right path - and sees a potential ally in Michael (Michael Vlamis)." And Cipres is Bonnie, "the other half of the duo of thieves who roll into town to hit up a few of Roswell's banks, determined to take what they believe to be rightfully theirs. Despite her impulsive nature, Bonnie is a caring, voraciously curious woman, struggling to find her place on this Earth - something Michael Guerin can relate to." (Deadline.com)
