CLOISTER F*CKED (The CW) - Tessa Blake has been tapped to helm the drama pilot, in which "two strangers become sisters on a spiritual - and spirited - journey to understand their own faith and their place in the Catholic Church." (Variety.com)
DOWN TO EARTH WITH ZAC EFRON (Netflix) - Production has begun on a second season of the series in Australia for a 2022 premiere. Efron Michael Simkin and Jason Barrett of Ninjas Runnin' Wild and Brian Volk-Weiss, Cisco Henson and Darin Olien of The Nacelle Company will executive produce. (Deadline.com)
KINDRED (FX, New!) - Branden Jacobs-Jenkins has scored a pilot order from the cable channel for a small screen take on Octavia E. Butler's novel, "centered on Dana, a young Black woman and aspiring writer who has uprooted her life of familial obligation and relocated to Los Angeles, ready to claim a future that, for once, feels all her own. But, before she can get settled into her new home, she finds herself being violently pulled back and forth in time to a nineteenth-century plantation with which she and her family are most surprisingly and intimately linked. An interracial romance threads through her past and present, and the clock is ticking as she struggles to confront the secrets she never knew ran through her blood, in this genre-breaking exploration of the ties that bind." Courtney Lee-Mitchell, Darren Aronofsky, Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields will also executive produce for Protozoa Pictures and FX Productions. (Deadline.com)
LOUDERMILK (Amazon) - The Farrelly brothers took to social media with the news their former AT&T Audience Network series has found a new home at Amazon. Seasons one and two will roll out on Friday, March 12 with season three - which has yet to air - due 30 days later. (@farrellybros, 3/6)
POWERPUFF GIRLS, THE (The CW) - Maggie Kiley has been tapped to helm the pilot for the live-action take on the beloved Cartoon Network animated series. (THR.com)
QUEENS (ABC) - Brandy has scored one of the lead roles on the drama pilot, Naomi: "Twenty years ago, Naomi was better known as Xplicit Lyrics - the highly skilled musical engine of the Nasty Bitches. A true artist with boundless musical talent - Naomi was certain she'd go on to mainstream success after the group's demise. She hasn't, singing and playing her guitar in crappy dive bars where all people want is her old persona. When the group gets back together, Naomi is reunited with the only man she ever loved, and the rival bandmate who stole that man from her. But what Naomi wants more than anything is to build a relationship with the daughter she was never really there for - if she only knew how." (Deadline.com)
RURANGI (Hulu, New!) - The streamer has scored the U.S. rights to the New Zealand series, which "follows transgender activist Caz Davis who returns to the remote, politically divided dairy community of Rūrangi after a decade away, hoping to reconnect with his estranged father, who hasn't heard from him since before Caz transitioned." Elz Carrad, Kirk Torrance, Āwhina Rose Henare Ashby, Arlo Green, Ramon Te Wake, Aroha Rawson, Renee Lyons and Renée Sheridan star in the project, from director Max Currie and co-creators Cole Meyers and Oliver Page. Producer Craig Gainsborough of Autonomouse and co-producers Tweedie Waititi, Cole Meyers, Max Currie and Melissa Nickerson are also among the auspices for The Yellow Affair and Prospect Films. (Deadline.com)
RUST (Showtime) - Mark Pellegrino has joined the cast of the Jeff Daniels/Maura Tierney-led drama as Virgil Poe, "described as "wiry" and "hanging onto his good looks" - and he's also unemployed. He plays the field but remains technically married to Grace Poe (Tierney), to whom he returns when he misses her bed or just needs a bed in general." (Deadline.com)
SEE (Apple TV+) - Tom Mison is bound for the new season in a yet-to-be-revealed role. (TVLine.com)
WOMEN OF THE YEAR (Amazon, New!) - Filmmaker Alma Har'el is developing a scripted anthology series at Amazon Studios inspired by Time's Women of the Year Project which "will feature a selection of women visionaries who played critical roles in our society's greatest achievements over the past century. Each episode will focus on one woman through the lens of the 24-hour period that made her "woman of the year." Each pivotal and highly impactful day that changed this woman's life, and ultimately our world, will be directed by a different female filmmaker, showcasing very distinct and personal takes on the course of history." Jellywolf's Christopher Leggett will also executive produce for Time Studios and P&G Studios. (Deadline.com)
