BRAVE NEW WORLD (Peacock) - The streaming service has passed on a second season for the series, marking its first cancellation to date. ""There will not be Season 2 of Brave New World on Peacock," the network said in a statement. "David Wiener created a thought-provoking and cinematic adaptation. We're grateful to the cast and crew who brought this world to life. We look forward to telling more stories with David in the future." Producer Universal Content Productions plans to shop the project elsewhere. (Deadline.com)
CHARMED (The CW) - Jason Diaz is slated to recur on the upcoming season as Antonio, described as "an overly confident but charming classmate of Maggie's (Sarah Jeffery) who quickly becomes her nemesis." (Deadline.com)
COUNSEL, THE (FOX, New!) - Erica Shelton has scored a script commitment - with a penalty attached - from the network for a new drama "inspired by the extraordinary political and personal experiences of Sunny Hostin. In it, four thirtysomething women of color, who are leaders in their respective fields of journalism, law, politics and public relations, must rely on their lifelong friendship to overcome a scandal that threatens to unravel everything they've achieved." Shelton and Hostin will executive produce for Universal Television and FOX Entertainment alongside Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, Jordan Sheehan and Clayton Krueger of Scott Free Productions. (Deadline.com)
DOPESICK (Hulu) - Ray McKinnon will recur on the limited series as Jerry Mallum, "Betsy's (Kaitlyn Dever) father, a religious and stoic coal miner." (Deadline.com)
FBI: MOST WANTED (CBS) - YaYa Gosselin's Tali LaCroix - daughter of Jess LaCroix, played by series lead Julian McMahon - has been promoted to regular for the upcoming second season. (Deadline.com)
HAVENFALL (Amazon, New!) - Evan Daugherty is developing a fantasy drama at the streaming service based on Sara Holland's novel, which "chronicles the story of Maddie, who returns to a place from her youth for the summer: a mysterious hotel called Havenfall Inn, nestled in the Rockies overlooking a sleepy Colorado town. A place which, unbeknownst to the world, contains portals leading to different fantastical realms. Havenfall has also long-served as a neutral territory that links these realms, but that peaceful status is disrupted by a shocking murder that will force Maddie to confront dark truths about her family." Glasstown Entertainment's Lauren Oliver and Weed Road Pictures' Akiva Goldsman and Greg Lessans will also executive produce for Amazon Studios. (Deadline.com)
NARCOS: MEXICO (Netflix) - The just ordered third season of the series will move forward without series lead Diego Luna, who portrayed drug cartel leader Félix Gallardo. It's understood fellow co-stars Scoot McNairy, José Maria Yazpik, Alberto Ammann, Alfonso Dosal, Mayra Hermosillo, Matt Letscher, Manuel Masalva, Alejandro Edda and Gorka Lasaosa will return. In addition, co-creator Carlo Bernard will be taking over day-to-day showrunning duties from Eric Newman. Newman however will continue to executive produce. (Deadline.com)
ROOKIE, THE (ABC) - Production on the series will continue despite five production crew members testing positive for coronavirus. Producer eOne released a statement about the news, saying: "We can confirm that four members of 'The Rookie' production crew received positive tests for COVID-19 on Wednesday of last week and an additional unrelated positive case was confirmed on Monday. In accordance with strict third-party medical health and safety protocols, deep cleaning of work and common areas was completed, all these individuals have been self-isolating, and crew members who might have potentially been in close contact with these individuals have been identified and contacted. We have not been made aware of any further positive cases." (Variety.com)
ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO (The CW) - David DeSantos has scored a recurring role on the series as Edgar, a character described as "an enigmatic leader who intersects with Roswell's heroes on a clandestine mission to better understand the unknown. Though he comes from an army background, Edgar has a wistful outlook on the universe. He believes that sometimes the best approach to an established problem is a fresh and creative perspective. Edgar will seek out those who align with his cause - but as a keeper of secrets he'll expect loyalty and discretion, no matter the cost." (Deadline.com)
SAFEHAVEN (Crackle) - Stephen Moyer, Belle Shouse and Antonio Cipriano are set to star in the supernatural thriller, about Jenna Frost (Shouse), a high school comic book artist who finds herself trapped in an alternate reality - a personal purgatory ripped from the pages of "Safehaven," the graphic novel of her own creation. In reality, Jenna lies in a coma after a car crash and is living inside a nightmarish parody of high school life where the real world collides with the horrors of her comic book. Moyer plays John Rayburn, "the mysterious new school counselor determined to save her, even if it endangers both of their lives and unearths his own personal demons. Complicating matters is Will (Cipriano), a passionate young man committed to protecting Jenna, who finds herself torn between rejecting his help and her growing feelings for him." Production on the series begins January 2021 in Louisiana. (Deadline.com)
TOM SWIFT (The CW, New!) - The netlet is developing a "Nancy Drew" spin-off from Melinda Hsu Taylor, Noga Landau and Cameron Johnson which "follows the serialized adventures of its titular Black, gay, billionaire inventor who is thrust into a world of sci-fi conspiracy and unexplained phenomena after the shocking disappearance of his father. Tom takes to the road on a quest to unravel the truth, leaving behind the comforts of his usual moneyed lifestyle, all while fighting to stay one step ahead of an Illuminati-scale group hell-bent on stopping him. Tom's missions will require his genius and flair for innovation guided by love, romance, friendship and the mysteries of the universe yet-unsolved." The plan is for the character to appear in an upcoming episode of the show's sophomore season with the aforementioned trio also penning a specific Tom Swift pilot script. Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage and Lis Rowinski will also executive produce the project via their CBS Studios-based Fake Empire banner. (Deadline.com)
Y: THE LAST MAN (Hulu) - Olivia Thirlby, Ashley Romans and Paul Gross have all been in the cast of the comic book-turned-TV series, which began production this week in Toronto. Louise Friedberg is helming the first two episodes, taking over from original pilot director Melina Matsoukas. As for the castings, Thirlby will replace Imogen Poots as Hero Brown; while Romans is assuming the role of Agent 355 from Lashana Lynch; and Gross is now set as the President of the United States, succeeding Timothy Hutton. The latter's exit is believed to be tied to a BuzzFeed News story in March "that revealed a criminal complaint against the actor that had been filed with the Vancouver Police Department. In the report, Sera Johnston told the site that she was raped and assaulted by both Hutton and a friend in 1983, when she was 14. Hutton denied the allegations." (Variety.com)
