BATWOMAN (The CW) - Shivaani Ghai will recur on the show's sophomore season as Safiyah," the fiercely protective ruler of a small community on the island of Coryana. A woman with as many enemies as aliases, she is compassionate and charismatic with both physical and psychological prowess. She is beloved by her people and will stop at nothing to protect what's hers. No one goes unnoticed by Safiyah, specifically when it comes to those who have encountered the Desert Rose." BEFORE I FORGET (Amazon, New!) - Writer Sarah Rothschild and director Marc Webb are set to team with Eva Longoria Baston for a potential drama series at the streaming service. No specifics were given about the project other than they are the featured auspices. Baston, who may star, and Ben Spector will presumably executive produce via their UnbeliEVAble Entertainment banner, which recently re-upped their three-year first-look deal with 20th Television. GOLDEN BOY (Freeform, New!) - Eddie Gonzalez and Jeremy Haft have sold a half-hour dramedy to the cable channel about Ricky "The Big Hurt" Hurtado, "a generational NFL prospect with an ego to match. He suffers a very public and humiliating flameout so returns home as a failure with no clear future. The Big Hurt is determined to rebuild his fractured relationships with his family and the community that once showered him in love and support, but now hate him." GOOP LAB WITH GWYNETH PALTROW, THE (Netflix) - The streaming service has quietly renewed the series for a six-episode second season. (Variety.com)
IN THE END (ABC, New!) - Steven Canals has set up a potential drama at the Alphabet which "centers on Kiona Brown, who, incapable of living life to the fullest, makes the only logical choice - to embrace death as an end-of-life doula. With an eclectic list of patients - including cancer survivor Mariana Cortez - Kiona soon discovers the secret to a new beginning is to embrace what happens... in the end." 20th Television, home to his Story Ave. Productions banner, is producing. SOUTH SIDE (HBO Max) - Co-creators/stars Bashir Salahuddin and Diallo Riddle have signed a multi-year overall deal with Warner Bros. Television. There they'll develop new series projects for the studio. (Deadline.com)
STAGED (Hulu, New!) - The streaming service has acquired the Michael Sheen/David Tennant-led comedy series, which "chronicles the cast of a furloughed West End theatre production during the coronavirus pandemic," from Rainmaker Content. Infinity Hill and GCB Films are behind the six-episode project, which was created by Simon Evans and Phin Glynn with Evans directing. Georgia Tennant, Anna Lundberg and Lucy Eaton also star. TEHRAN (Apple TV+) - Co-creator Moshe Zonder has signed a multi-year first-look deal with the company. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED JOE EXOTIC PROJECT (Amazon, New!) - A proposed Nicolas Cage-led series about the infamous Joe Exotic has found a home at Amazon. Dan Lagana is behind the project, which centers around Joe Shreibvogel (Cage), "an eccentric, exotic zookeeper in Oklahoma who fights to keep his park - even at the risk of losing his sanity. The series will live in the lion's den with Joe, explore how he became Joe Exotic, and how he lost himself to a character of his own creation." Brian Grazer, Paul Young, Samie Kim Falvey, Scott Brown and Megan Creydt are also among the executive producers for Amazon Studios, Imagine Television Studios, CBS Television Studios, Make Good Content, Saturn Films and Texas Monthly. Leif Reigstad's article in the latter, "Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild," was optioned as source material. (Deadline.com)
