Sky Original drama "Save Me" to premiere on Starz in US
- Sky Vision sells series to 132 territories -
Sky Vision, the production and distribution arm of Sky, has sold the critically acclaimed Sky Original drama series Save Me, starring Lennie James and Suranne Jones, to US premium cable network STARZ. It will premiere on Thursday, 6th September, running over three nights on STARZ, the STARZ app and STARZ On Demand. To date, Sky Vision has sold the series to 132 territories worldwide.
The suspenseful drama was created and written by lead actor Lennie James, and produced by Simon Heath from World Productions, the company that produced the award-winning Line of Duty, and Jessica Sykes from Independent Talent. The series was directed by BAFTA winning Nick Murphy.
Lennie James, who is currently starring in the fourth series of spin-off Fear the Walking Dead on AMC, described Save Me as a 'love letter' to the south London of his youth.
Save Me follows Nelson Nelly Rowe (Lennie James) and his search for Jody, his missing daughter. A daughter he hasn't seen for ten years - more than half her life. Nelly's a charmer, a chancer, a lover, a fighter, and a liar. He's now also an estranged father, accused of kidnapping the daughter he barely knows.
On his way to finding Jody, Nelly will save lives, find others who have been lost, reunite loved ones, make enemies from friends, risk his life and the lives of others close to him and continually end up back on his feet after finding himself flat on his face. He's a man who faces a stark reality, as hard as it may be to admit, that in losing his daughter he finds himself.
The series also stars Suranne Jones (Scott & Bailey, Doctor Foster), Stephen Graham (This is England, BroadwalkEmpire). Creator/Writer/Executive Producer is Lennie James, with co-writers Daniel Fajemisin-Duncan, Marlon Smith; Director: Nick Murphy and Executive Producers: Simon Heath and Jessica Sykes; Producer Patrick Schweitzer.
The series, which aired on Sky Atlantic in the UK, received widespread critical acclaim and became Sky's most rapidly binged boxset ever with more than a million people watching the entire series in less than a fortnight.
Leona Connell, Director of Sales, Sky Vision said: "It's testament to the quality of this drama and the talented cast that STARZ decided to invest in the series and showcase it this Autumn. Save Me has sold to over 132 territories, including Latin America, Italy, Australia, Germany, Spain and the Benelux, which is proof of its international popularity."
The deal with STARZ was negotiated by Gillian Rose, Sky Vision's SVP of Sales & Acquisitions, US. The second series of Save Me is currently in pre-production.
