By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

DARK TOWER, THE/WHEEL OF TIME, THE (Amazon, New!) - After months of rumblings, Amazon Studios chief Jennifer Salke formally confirmed projects based on both genre properties are in the works for their streaming service. "Those are scripts that I haven't gotten yet," she said. "I'll be seeing those, that material, in the coming weeks. None of those things are dead. They're very much alive." Last year, Glen Mazzara was tapped to pen the TV incarnation of Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" (previously in the works at both NBC and HBO); while Rafe Judkins was put at the helm of Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" at Sony Pictures TV (which had yet to find a network home). (Deadline.com)
GAME OF THRONES (HBO) - Author George R.R. Martin took to his blog to indicate while Jane Goldman's prequel series pilot is now moving to film, "three more [series] prequels, set in different periods and featuring different characters and storylines, remain in active development. Everything I am told indicates that we could film at least one more pilot, and maybe more than one, in the years to come. We do have an entire world and tens of thousands of years of history to play with, after all. But this is television, so nothing is certain." (GeorgeRRMartin.com)
MAKING FRIENDS/UPLOAD (Amazon) - Amazon Studios chief Jennifer Salke confirmed they have passed on the multi-camera comedy pilot "Making Friends," from Carter Bays and Craig Thomas; while the single-camera pilot "Upload," from Greg Daniels, "is still in very much active conversations about the budget and other things." (Deadline.com)
MODERN LOVE (Amazon, New!) - John Carney (Sing Street) is spearheading a new half-hour romantic comedy anthology series at Amazon Studios based on the popular New York Times column of the same name. The eight-episode series, from Storied Media Group, "will explore love in its multitude of forms - including sexual, romantic, familial, platonic, and self love." Lifetime previously filmed a pilot 2011 based on said column starring Eric Stoltz. (Deadline.com)
NEIGHBORHOOD, THE (CBS) - Beth Behrs ("2 Broke Girls") is returning to the Eye as part of its upcoming comedy series, about what happens when the friendliest guy in the Midwest moves his family to a neighborhood in Los Angeles where not everyone looks like him or appreciates his extreme neighborliness. She'll play Dave's (Max Greenfield) wife Gemma, replacing Dreama Walker from the original pilot. Greenfield likewise succeeded Josh Lawson from said incarnation. (Deadline.com)
TELL ME A STORY (CBSAA) - Paul Wesley ("The Vampire Diaries") has signed onto Kevin Williamson's drama at the streaming service as Eddie, "a derelict and troubled individual whose petulance is fueled even more by his problems with drugs and alcohol. Although he works as a bartender, he also splits his time as a low-level drug dealer and part-time thief with his older brother Mitch, who never fails to treat Eddie as the lowly delinquent that he is." Danielle Campbell, Billy Magnussen and Kim Catrall also star. (Deadline.com)
