The Eurovision Song Contest, organized by the European Broadcasting Union, is the world's largest non-sporting live TV event and the most watched live entertainment program in world, attracting around 200 million television viewers each year. The 2018 Grand Final competition is hosted in the city of Lisbon, Portugal, with a theme titled 'All Aboard' that follows the story of the world being connected through the ocean. There will be 43 acts in this year's competition, which equals the record for the most participating countries during a single Eurovision year. They will be battling it out to win the coveted trophy, which last year was saw majestic Salvador Sobral's runaway victory with his song 'Amar Pelos Dois' claiming the prize for Portugal. Eurovision is synonymous with diversity, powerful ballads, catchy songs and ethnic beats, thrown into the mix is a complex stage show with pyrotechnics and outlandish costumes.

Since inception, the contest has hosted the likes of ABBA, Celine Dion, Olivia Newton-John, Julio Iglesias, and Cliff Richard. Famous recent winners, who've gone on to receive mainstream acclaim, include Austrian Conchita Wurst and both Mns Zelmerlw and Loreen from Sweden. After its inauguration in 1956, the Eurovision Song Contest has brought together artists and viewers from across the European continent, and Australia, to create a sense of community and celebrate diversity of culture. Each participating member broadcaster of the European Broadcasting Union is permitted to enter one original song into the contest, which is aired live on television, radio, and the internet across the world, and then voted on by professional juries and televoters.

The 63rd annual Eurovision Song Contest is produced by Portugal's public broadcaster, Rdio e Televiso de Portugal (RTP), and will be held in Lisbon in May.
