|
LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:
Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!
ABBY'S (NBC) - Kimia Behpoornia is the latest to board the multi-camera comedy pilot, which is set at an unlicensed bar in San Diego where the regulars enthusiastically enforce a unique set of rules that give them a sense of community and allow them to avoid the frustrating behavior found at other establishments. She'll play Rosie, "the bar manager at Abby's and a bit of a hothead. She prides herself on having memorized all the rules of the place." (Deadline.com)
CROWN, THE (Netflix) - Tobias Menzies has been tapped to play Prince Philip in the upcoming third season, taking over for Matt Smith. Paul Bettany had previously been in talks for said role. (@netflix)
FACE THE TRUTH (Syndication, New!) - Vivica A. Fox is set to team with Phil McGraw's Stage 29 Productions for a new syndicated entry which aims "to offer a unique take on talk by providing meaningful conflict with constructive resolution. Each episode features real people presenting their problems big and small to the panel in search of solutions." Jon Taffer, Areva Martin, Judy Ho and Rosie Mercado will serve on the panel alongside Fox. CBS Television Distribution has cleared the series in 10 major markets for a fall 2018 launch. Jay McGraw, Carla Pennington, Patricia Ciano and Phil McGraw are the executive producers. (Deadline.com)
LUCIFER (FOX) - Charlyne Yi will drop by this season's 21st episode as Ray-Ray, "one of forensics whiz Ella's oldest friends. The gals get along great, though their relationship is fraught with drama due to one teeny, tiny issue - Ray-Ray is a ghost, invisible to everyone but Ella." (TVLine.com)
SHARKNADO 6 (Syfy, New!) - The franchise is slated to come to a close this August with a sixth and final film. Ian Ziering, Tara Reid, Cassie Scerbo and Vivica A. Fox are all slated to return, as is director Anthony C. Ferrante. Said effort will see "Ian Ziering's leading man Finn [as he] must travel back in time to stop the Sharknado that started it all." (TVLine.com)
STRANGE ANGEL (CBSAA) - Elena Satine is set to recur on the upcoming drama as Maggie, "Ernest's (Rupert Friend's) wife. Beautiful and fashion-forward, she is an ex-Vaudeville song and dance girl who now makes her living designing costumes for RKO Pictures in the late 1930s. She gives off the appearance of being warm and carefree, though some of her husband's activities cause her more grief than she'd like to admit." (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED BEN WINSTON PROJECT (CBS) - Amber Stevens West ("Ghosted") has signed on to star in the multi-camera comedy pilot, about Peter (Damon Wayans, Jr.) and Claire (West), a young married couple whose lives are completely upended when Cooper (Felix Mallard), a young musician moves into their spare bedroom and brings with him the complications of being an up-and-coming mega pop star - sometimes even the paparazzi. Her casting is in second position to the FOX comedy. Her character is "happily married to Peter, the business manager of 20-year-old music superstar Cooper. She's a little concerned when Cooper comes to stay with them, particularly since Cooper's exuberant young personality and lifestyle are a big contrast to their more tame and settled one."
