NEW LINE CINEMA'S MUCH-ANTICIPATED HORROR THRILLER "IT" TO PREMIERE EXCLUSIVE SNEAK PEEK DURING THE "2017 MTV MOVIE & TV AWARDS"
LOS ANGELES, CA (May 4, 2017) - MTV today announced that the "2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards" will debut an exclusive sneak peek from New Line Cinema's highly anticipated horror thriller "IT," set for theatrical release on September 8, 2017. Several of the young stars from "IT," including Jaeden Lieberher, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs, and Jack Dylan Grazer - known collectively in the film as The Losers Club - will be on hand to introduce the never-before-seen content to fans. It will be the first glimpse at the film since the record-breaking global debut of the trailer, which has been viewed and shared hundreds of millions of times. The "MTV Movie & TV Awards, hosted by comedian Adam Devine, will air LIVE on Sunday, May 7, at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
Directed by Andy Muschietti ("Mama"), "IT" is based on the hugely popular Stephen King novel of the same name, which has been terrifying readers for decades. When children begin to disappear in the town of Derry, Maine, a group of young kids are faced with their biggest fears when they square off against an evil clown named Pennywise, whose history of murder and violence dates back for centuries.
"IT" stars Bill Skarsgrd ("Allegiant," TV's "Hemlock Grove") as the story's central villain, Pennywise. Muschietti directed the film from a screenplay by Chase Palmer & Cary Fukunaga and Gary Dauberman, based on the novel by King. Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Seth Grahame-Smith, David Katzenberg and Barbara Muschietti are the producers, with Richard Brener, Dave Neustadter, Walter Hamada, Marty P. Ewing, Doug Davison, Jon Silk and Niija Kuykendall serving as executive producers. "IT" will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.
The 2017 "MTV Movie & TV Awards" will serve as the ultimate celebration of the best stories, actors and characters for the MTV audience. Breakout horror film "Get Out" leads the pack with six nominations, along with "Beauty and the Beast" and "Stranger Things" with four. While fan favorite categories like Best Kiss, Best Hero, Best Villain and more remain, MTV has broken the divide between film, television and streaming series, instead nominating the best performances no matter the screen. Also for the first time, the former Best Actor and Best Actress categories have been replaced with non-gendered Best Actor in a Movie and Best Actor in a Show. Best Fight has been modernized to Best Fight the System reflecting the audience's increasing awareness and activism around broader social justice issues. In addition, MTV introduced Best American Story, Tearjerker, Best Host, Best Reality Competition and Next Generation.
Casey Patterson, for her second consecutive year, will serve as Executive Producer. Carol Donovan and MTV's Garrett English serve as Executive Producers for the "2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards." Melanie Block is Executive in Charge of Production. Wendy Plaut serves as Co-Executive Producer and Executive in Charge of Celebrity Talent. Amani Duncan is Executive in Charge of Music.
