FREEFORM LAUNCHES THE NEW DIGITAL SHORT-FORM SERIES
'MY BOYFRIEND IS A ROBOT' AVAILABLE TODAY ON
FREEFORM.COM AND THE FREEFORM APP
Freeform premieres its newest digital short-form series, "My Boyfriend is a Robot," a romantic fish-out-of-water comedy centering on the relationship between a girl and her boyfriend - who happens to be a robot. The show can be seen on Freeform.com and Freeform app, starting today, February 10. The project is from executive producers Deborah Spera and Maria Grasso.
"My Boyfriend is a Robot," created by and starring Chloe Searcy ("Chloe + Zoë") and Josh Margolin ("New Girl"), is a romantic comedy with a twist. Rosie is a totally normal 20-something girl. Bruce is a highly advanced 5-year-old humanoid robot and a really great guy. The show follows Rosie and Bruce as they navigate the ups and downs of their imperfect, but loving relationship.
Searcy (Rosie) is best known for her web series "Chloe + Zoë," which she wrote and starred in with Zoë Worth. It was featured by a number of publications, including Refinery 29, Thought Catalog, Nylon Magazine and Indiewire, who included it in their year-end Best-Of lists in both 2012 and 2013. After two seasons and a spin-off series on Hello Giggles, "Chloe + Zoë" was developed as a half-hour pilot at MTV. The series is now available on the Fullscreen app.
Josh Margolin ("Bruce") is an actor and writer with extensive improv comedy experience. He has appeared on "New Girl" and "Hot in Cleveland," as well as on a variety of digital platforms including Funny or Die, Fullscreen and IFC's Comedy Crib. Josh's web series "New Partner," which he wrote and starred in with Quinn Beswick, won Best Comedy at the 2015 New York Television Festival and is now in development at Will Gluck's production company, Olive Bridge.
"My Boyfriend is a Robot" comes from Searcy and Margolin, as well as executive producers Deborah Spera and Maria Grasso of One-Two Punch Productions and Eben Kostbar, Nic Hill and Blake Behnam of Sawhorse Media. The series was directed by James Gallagher ("Chloe and Zoë." "New Partner"). The digital series was also made possible courtesy of ITV America who controls the underlying rights to the property.
