LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:
Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!
BLUNK TALK (Starz) - The pay channel has pulled the plug on the series after two seasons. "We are grateful to Jonathan [Ames] and Patrick [Stewart] for the tirades and laughs that Walter Blunt delivered to fans with such aplomb," Starz programming president Carmi Zlotnik said in a statement. "While Walter may not be returning to the airwaves, we are incredibly proud of the work that was done these past two seasons by our wonderful partners and collaborators on Blunt Talk, from Seth MacFarlane and our studio MRC, to our actors, writers and crew. It was a very special show with a heartfelt message. It was an honor serving you, Major." (THR.com, 12/20)
CRUEL INTENTIONS (NBC) - Sony Pictures Television has officially shelved the potential small screen take. NBC previously extended the cast options on the completed pilot but ultimately decided not to go forward in October. The studio then attempted to find a new home to no avail. (Deadline.com, 12/22)
DISJOINTED (Netflix) - Michael Trucco has booked a recurring role on the series as Tae Kwon Doug, "a vehement marijuana opposer and local martial arts instructor whose dojang is located next door to Kathy Bates's character's shop, Ruth's Alternative Caring." (TVLine.com, 12/19)
MR. MERCEDES (Audience) - Oscar nominee Ann-Margret has signed onto David E. Kelley's forthcoming series as Ida Silver, "the next-door neighbor of Det. Bill Hodges (Brendan Gleeson). Ida doesn't miss much and is a real piece of work: prickly, outspoken, self-serving, intimidating and vulnerable." (THR.com, 12/21)
PATH, THE (Hulu) - Melanie Griffith will drop by the show's upcoming second season as the mother to Noa (Britne Oldford) and is "described as being successful in the music industry, so Cal (Hugh Dancy) will do anything to get her support for the Meyerist movement." (Variety.com, 12/20)
TEEN WOLF (MTV) - Matthew Del Negro is slated to return for the show's swan song as Rafael McCall. No other details were given. (TVLine.com, 12/23)
UNTITLED MARIN & RODRIGUEZES PROJECT (NBC, New!) - Cheech Marin, Paul Rodriguez and the latter's son Paul Rodriguez, Jr. are set to star in a project for the Peacock billed as "an irreverent single-camera comedy about being Latino in today's America as seen through the different perspectives of three generations of Latino males - a grandfather, father, and son - Cheech (Marin), Paul (Rodriguez), and Paulie (Rodriguez Jr.)." Steve and Jim Armogida will pen the script and executive produce alongside the trio as well as Andrew Tennenbaum for Universal Television. (Deadline.com, 12/22)
WE THE PEOPLE (NBC, New!) - Anjelah Johnson ("MadTV") is attached to star in a potential single-camera comedy for the Peacock "set in the Los Angeles office of a federal agency and revolves around case officer Malory Ruiz (Johnson), who alongside a diverse group of co-workers, helps people gain their citizenship, while just trying to make it to five o'clock." Charlie Sanders is penning the script for Universal Television with Pacific Electric Picture Company's Ed Helms and Mike Falbo likewise executive producing. (Deadline.com, 12/21)
