WASHINGTON & NEW YORK -- National Geographic Channel (NGC) announced today that visionary Mexican filmmaker Everardo Gout ("Days of Grace") has been tapped to direct the network's six-hour documentary-scripted hybrid miniseries, MARS. The program, executive produced by Academy Award and Emmy-winning producers Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Michael Rosenberg of Imagine Entertainment; and Justin Wilkes, Jon Kamen and Dave O'Connor of RadicalMedia, is currently in production. Gout will also serve as an executive producer on the series. "With Everardo's distinctive style of storytelling, we're hoping to spark imaginations as we weave together the story of making life on Mars an exciting and real prospect for a new generation of space enthusiasts," said Tim Pastore, president of original programming and production, NGC. "Combining a unique blend of feature quality drama with documentary sequences, MARS will unpack what the greatest minds in space exploration are doing today, and dramatize the world they are creating as they pull off mankind's greatest feat - interplanetary travel and colonization."

His first critically acclaimed feature film, "Days of Grace," made its premiere at the 2012 Cannes International Film Festival to rave reviews.

MARS will tell the epic story of the thrilling quest to colonize Mars and the first manned mission in 2032 with dramatic scripted drama and feature film-caliber visual effects, intercut with documentary verité and interviews from present-day scientists and innovators who are leading the research and development of space technology.
