LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:
Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!
24: LEGACY (FOX/20th; W: Evan Katz & Manny Coto; D: Stephen Hopkins) - Anna Diop ("The Messengers") is the latest addition to the drama pilot, which will revolve around military hero Eric Carter's (Corey Hawkins) return to the U.S. and the trouble that follows him back - compelling him to ask CTU for help in saving his life, and stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil. She'll play Nicole, Carter's wife. (Deadline.com)
CHUNK & BEAN (ABC/ABCS; W: Brian Donovan & Ed Herro; D: Chris Koch) - Adam Rodriguez (Magic Mike XXL) is the first to board the single-camera comedy pilot, about the unlikely friendship of two misfits, Chunk and Bean, who benefit from having two very different sets of parents living next door to each other. He'll play Jim Rogerson in the project. (Deadline.com)
CORPORATE (Comedy Central; W: Jake Weisman, Matt Ingebretson & Pat Bishop; D: Pat Bishop) - Anne Dudek, Adam Lustick and Lance Reddick have all landed roles on the pilot, a dark, satirical workplace comedy that follows Matt (Ingebretson) and Jake (Weisman) two junior executives-in-training who are forced to do the dirty work of the higher-ups at one of the world's largest corporations, Hampton DeVille. Dudek will play Kate, "a friendly in a sociopathic way executive at the corporation"; with Lustick as John, "Kate's male analogue, another executive with Hampton DeVille"; and Reddick as Christian, "the high-strung CEO of Hampton Deville." (Deadline.com)
DREAM TEAM (ABC/WBT; W: Bill Wrubel & Kari Lizer; D: Marc Buckland) - Michael Mosley, Lindsey Kraft and Michelle Buteau are the first to be cast in the single-camera comedy pilot, about champion soccer coach Marty Schumacher, who now has to start from scratch with a diverse group of eight-year-olds and their disparate parents. They'll play three of the parents: Mosley as Rick Johnson ("completely on board with getting his daughter, Tiffnee, onto a top-notch soccer team"), Kraft as Michaela ("horrified by the idea of being a soccer mom, knowing full well most of the heavy lifting will fall to her"); and Buteau as Olga Diaz ("the mother of 11-year-old Vanessa, who's vying for a spot on the soccer team"). (Deadline.com)
GREAT INDOORS, THE (CBS/CTS; W: Mike Gibbons; D: TBA) - Joel McHale ("Community") has been tapped for the lead role on the multi-camera comedy pilot, about an adventure reporter who must adapt to the times when he becomes the boss to a group of millennials in the digital department of the magazine. He'll play said fellow, Joel, who "when he's sidelined by an injury, he's forced to take a desk job in the publication's digital and social media department, surrounded by a team of millennials who view him as an exotic and ancient oddity from another place and time." (Deadline.com)
TIME AFTER TIME (ABC/WBT; W: Kevin Williamson; D: Marcos Siega) - Freddie Stroma ("UnReal") has booked the lead role on the drama pilot, based on Karl Alexander's 1979 novel-turned-movie of the same name in which H.G. Wells builds a real time machine to travels to the future in search of Jack the Ripper. Stroma will play the aforementioned Wells (Malcolm McDowell in the feature). (Deadline.com)
TRAIL, THE (NBC/WBT; W: Jeff Astrof & Matt Miller; D: Jeffrey Blitz) - John Lithgow and Sherri Shepherd have both snagged roles on the single-camera comedy pilot, a spoof of crime documentaries, about Josh Simon, a young big-city lawyer and his oddball defense team during a high-profile murder trial in a small southern town. Lithgow will play the suspect, Larry Henderson, "a smart but slightly clueless poetry professor at a South Carolina community college who is accused of murdering his wife"; while Shepherd is set as Anne Flatch, "the well-meaning and enthusiastic assistant/receptionist at Josh Simon's makeshift law office in East Peck, South Carolina." (Deadline.com)
AND IN OTHER NEWS... - A&E has axed its CBS import "Unforgettable," which wrapped its revival last month (Deadline.com); Todd Holland is set to helm the Eye's comedy adaptation of the Australian comedy "Upper Middle Bogan," which will now be shot as single-camera (Deadline.com); Andy Parker has signed a multi-year overall deal with Universal Cable Productions (Deadline.com); Brad Falchuk has likewise inked a three-year overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television (Deadline.com); Neema Barnette has signed onto OWN's "Queen Sugar" as a producer/in-house director (Deadline.com); Rob Benedict will reprise his role of Chuck on "Supernatural" later this season (TVLine.com); and Showtime and Netflix are among the bidders for a limited series adaptation of Jonathan Franzen's novel "Purity," to star Daniel Craig and directed by Todd Field (Variety.com).
