|
LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:
Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!
99 DAYS (MTV, New!) - Katie Cotugno's New York Times best-selling book - about Molly Barlow, "who's facing one long, hot summer - 99 days - with the boy whose heart she broke and the boy she broke it for... his brother - is being developed as a comedy at the cable channel. Lila Feinberg is penning the adaptation, which is set up at Warner Horizon Television and Alloy Entertainment, and serves as supervising producer. The latter's Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo are executive producers. (Deadline.com)
AMERICAN GOTHIC (CBS/CBSP; W: Corinne Brinkerhoff; D: Matt Shakman) - Elliot Knight is the latest to be cast in the upcoming drama which centers on a prominent Boston family that is attempting to redefine itself in the wake of a chilling discovery that links their recently deceased patriarch to a string of murders spanning decades, amid the mounting suspicion that one of them may have been his accomplice. He'll play Brady, "solid and honest with a touch of cynicism, he is happily married to Tessa (Megan Ketch), the youngest daughter of a prominent Boston family." (THR.com)
CHAD: AN AMERICAN BOY (FOX, New!) - Nasim Pedrad is set to star in a new single-camera comedy pilot at the network about a 14 year old boy (Pedrad) in the throes of adolescence is tasked with being the man of the house, which leaves him with all the responsibilities of being an adult without any of the perks. Pedrad also co-wrote the half-hour alongside Rob Rosell for 20th Century Fox Television. Michael Rotenberg and Dave Becky of 3 Arts Entertainment also serve as executive producers, as does director Jason Winer.
CONVICTION (ABC/ABCS; W: Liz Friedlander & Liz Friedman; D: Liz Friedlander) - Hayley Atwell ("Marvel's Agent Carter") has booked the lead role on the drama pilot, about Carter Morrison, the brilliant but rebellious daughter of a Clinton-like political family who is forced into taking a job as the head of Los Angeles' newly created Conviction Integrity Unit. Her involvement is presumably in second position to "Agent Carter," however with both series being from the same network and studio, it's more likely the Marvel series won't be returning. (Deadline.com)
DIMENSION 404 (Hulu, New!) - The streaming service has commissioned six hour-long episodes from Freddie Wong and Matt Arnold's RocketJump ("RocketJump: The Show") for a new sci-fi anthology series which explores "the wonders and horrors of our digital age." Lionsgate Television is behind the project, which has created by Dez Dolly, Will Campos, Dan Johnson and David Welch. Wong, Arnold and Dolly are the executive producers. (Deadline.com)
LAWRENCE IN ARABIA (HBO, New!) - Scott Anderson's best-selling book, subtitled "War, Deceit, Imperial Folly and the Making of the Modern Middle East," is being developed as a period drama at the pay channel. Anthony McCarten (The Theory of Everything) is penning the script, which "chronicles the adventure of T.E. Lawrence, David Hogarth, William Yale, and Rudolph McGovern as they dangerously navigate the burgeoning Arab Revolt in the Middle East in the years leading up to World War I." Art and John Linson also serve as executive producers while Anderson serves as consultant. (Deadline.com)
PEARL (ABC/ABCS; W: Andrew Reich; D: Jim Field Smith) - Candice Bergen ("Murphy Brown") has been tapped for the title role on the single-camera comedy pilot, about a larger-than-life family matriarch who, after she finds out she has cancer, becomes intent on controlling and orchestrating every aspect of her family's life before she dies. In addition, Jim Field Smith has signed on to direct. (Deadline.com)
TRAIL, THE (NBC/WBT; W: Jeff Astrof & Matt Miller; D: Jeffrey Blitz) - Steven Boyer (Hand to God) is the first to be cast in the single-camera comedy, a spoof of crime documentaries, about Josh Simon, "a young big-city lawyer and his oddball defense team during a high-profile murder trial in a small southern town." He'll play Dwayne, "Simon's loyal lead investigator. Not the sharpest tool in the shed, Dwayne's dream is to take a bullet for Josh - hopefully not from his own gun." (Deadline.com)
AND IN OTHER NEWS... - Sam Huntington will recur on "Rosewood" as Mitchie Brickman, "a fun, fast talking new-to-town private pathologist who was forced to close his lab in Pensacola due a penchant for doing pro bono work," a role which has a series regular option (Deadline.com); Joe Wright is set to helm an upcoming installment of "Black Mirror" starring Bryce Dallas Howard and Alice Eve (Deadline.com); Gabriel Mann, Ted Levine and Ismael Cruz Cordova will all recur on the new season of "Ray Donovan" (TVLine.com, Variety.com); Blair Underwood will guest on "The Good Wife" as "a middle-class motel owner still reeling over the death of his teenage daughter by a random bullet a year ago" (THR.com); Amy Gumenick's Cupid will return to "Arrow" later this season (CBR.com); and Paget Brewster's Emily Prentiss is likewise due back on "Criminal Minds" (TVLine.com).
