RUN AND GUNN (The CW, New!) - Wendy Riss Gatsiouni ("Reign") has sold a new drama to the netlet which "takes place in the '70s and centers on a young "B movie" studio head on the brink of ruin who hires a talented aspiring female director and an unlikely group of financial bakers, cast and crew to produce a movie that will save his company." Jeffrey Kramer, Laurie McCarthy and Elliott Webb will also executive produce via the former's CBS Television Studios-based Juniper Place Productions. (THR.com)
SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS, A (Netflix/Paramount; W: TBA; D: Brad Silberling) - Neil Patrick Harris is in negotiations to star in the streaming service's adaptation of Daniel Handler's book, which recounts the tale of the orphaned children Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire at the hands of the villainous Count Olaf (Harris), as they face trials and tribulations, misfortunes, and an evil uncle in search of their fortune, all in their quest to uncover the secret of their parents' death. Brad Silberling has been tapped to direct the series, presumably succeeding Barry Sonnenfeld, while Mark Hudis has exited as showrunner. (THR.com)
STRIKE FORCE (CBS, New!) - Robert Port ("Agent X") has booked a potential drama at the Eye about "a specialized task force comprised of intelligence officers from multiple federal agencies who go after the worst criminals in the country." The project is based on the life of DEA agent Chris Giovino. Jeffrey Kramer also serves as an executive producer via his CBS Television Studios-based Juniper Place Productions. (THR.com)
UNTITLED MATT GROENING PROJECT (Netflix, New!) - Matt Groening ("The Simpsons") is in talks to develop a new animated series for the streaming service. No details were given about the project, other than Groening will write and executive produce. (Deadline.com)
AND IN OTHER NEWS... - Evan Katz, Manny Coto, Patrick McKay and John D. Payne have all bowed out of FOX's "Hellfire," based on the clandestine society from Marvel Comics (THR.com); Chuck Lorre and David Javerbaum are set to make the broadcast rounds with a new multi-camera comedy "set at a legal marijuana dispensary in Colorado and revolves around an ensemble of potheads" (Deadline.com); FOX is still in talks with producers of "So You Think You Can Dance" about a 13th season (Deadline.com); Katie Aselton will recur on "Togetherness" in a yet-to-be-revealed role (Deadline.com); and Matt Cedeño will drop by "The Originals" as "a callous, smart and manipulative vampire from the Mikaelsons' past who comes to New Orleans seeking vengeance" (TVLine.com).
