By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

BASTARDS (HBO, New!) - Playwright Branden Jacobs Jenkins and director Alan Poul are set to team for a new drama at the pay channel based on the Israeli series "Nevelot," about "two elderly Vietnam vets in contemporary Miami, whose resentment of today's entitled youth causes a small act of self-defense to snowball into something much bigger." Said effort comes from Sony Pictures Television with Jenkins, Happy Madison's Doug Robinson, Boku Films' Poul, Mirit Toovi, Yoran Mokady and Hadas Mozes Lichtenstein executive producing. Dror Sabo, Daphna Levin, Lee Yardeni and Aviram Buchris created the original series. (Deadline.com)

CORPORATE (Comedy Central, New!) - Matt Ingebretson, Jake Weisman and Pat Bishop have scored a pilot order from the cable channel for "a dark, satirical workplace comedy that follows Matt (Ingebretson) and Jake (Weisman) two junior executives-in-training who are forced to do the dirty work of the higher-ups at one of the world's largest corporations, Hampton DeVille." Bishop will also direct. (Deadline.com)

LAID OFF (ABC, New!) - Ryan Jaffe (This Is Happening) has set up a high-concept comedy at the Alphabet about "a guy who wakes up one day to find that he has been "laid off" from life. Literally. He's alive, but he's contributed so little to the world, that to everyone else he doesn't exist. He learns from others like him that he is stuck in this Groundhog Day-like existence until he eventually redeems himself by contributing something worthy of re-entry to the normal everyday world, a day that may never come." Warner Bros. Television-based Lin Pictures is behind the half-hour with the company's Dan Lin also executive producing. (THR.com)

LAST TYCOON, THE (Amazon/TriStar; W/D: Billy Ray) - Matt Bomer ("White Collar") has been tapped to star in the drama pilot, based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's final unfinished novel inspired by the life of film mogul Irving Thalberg, about Monroe Stahr, "Hollywood's first wunderkind studio executive in the 1930s as he climbs to the height of power pitting him against his mentor and current head of the studio Pat Brady, a character based on Louis B. Mayer." His casting lifts said contingency off the pilot's production. Chris Keyser, Perri Kipperman, Josh Maurer, David Stern and Alix Witlin are also among the executive producers. (Deadline.com)

UNTITLED NIELS MUELLER PROJECT (CBS, New!) - Niels Mueller has sold a potential drama to the Eye about "a unique, highly effective task force comprised entirely of African-American police officers, which was assembled in the early 1970s by the Boston Police Commissioner to more effectively prevent and solve crimes in previously neglected areas of the city." CBS Television Studios is behind the hour with Alexandra Lydon and Kapital Entertainment's Aaron Kaplan likewise executive producing. (Variety.com)

AND IN OTHER NEWS... - The CW has commissioned five additional episodes of "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" and six additional episodes of "iZombie" bringing their season totals to 18 and 19 installments, respectively (Deadline.com); Terri J. Vaughn is the latest bound for OWN's "Greenleaf" as Melisse, "the chief housekeeper at Greenleaf mansion" (Deadline.com); Ellia English will recur on "Code Black" as Isabel Mendez, "one of the nurses in the ER" (Deadline.com); and Matthew Morrison will drop by TV Land's "Younger" in a yet-to-be-revealed role (Instagram.com).
